Non-Acetone Nail Polish Remover To Clean Ball
« on: September 10, 2008, 03:55:37 AM »
I was told that non-acetone nail polish remover can be used to clean my Brunswick Power Groove.  Is this a good, cheap method or should I be using something else?  I bowl maybe 6-10 games a week.

I think everyone has a different method. I tried all of the expensive ball cleaners. I allways come back to rubbing alcohol. Used it for years on all brands of balls, never hurt any of them. Try to allways clean your ball after bowling, this way the oil won't soak in as fast. Don't know anything about non-acetone np remover. you can check on bowl.com for approved cleaners. Good Bowling!

non aceton nail polish is in general isopropyl alcohol... which is the main part of most ball cleaners...

if it works you have found a good ball cleaner for a cheap price

I think it's better used for removing nail polish. Most of that stuff is too harsh and the fumes will kill brain cells in a hurry. If you're looking for an inexpensive and safe ball cleaner try a 50/50 mix Simple Green and water. After diluted it'll cost you pennies to use and it's safe for the ball.

The key is to spray it all over the ball and THEN WAIT 20-30 SECONDS before you wipe it off. I've used it for years.

The best poor-man's cleaner I've used is half water, half isopropyl alcohol, half Simple Green (it's better than simply half water/half SG because it's got three halves instead of just two).

That's still not as good as a bowling ball specific cleaner.  Legends cleaner is basically the gold standard, though Valentino's Remedy is looking like a real contender.  I've got some of the Remedy on the way that I'm looking forward to trying.

I'm a firm believer in Legends cleaner but you can use several combinations to do the trick.  Some people will mix normal ball cleaners with alchohol and water to extend the life of the ball cleaner.  I prefer using the normal cleaners because it's cheaper than replacing the ball.

If you are bowling in USBC leagues or tournaments...Non-Acetone Polish Remover is illegal to use on your ball at any time.

Nail polish remover almost always has some oil or other hand softener in it. If it is oil, you may not be too happy with the result after a while. Try some other "cheap" method.

Why don't you just use a ball cleaner?  Something tried and trusted and made to do the job.

I'd guess because he says he wants cheap.
