Pure strokers on the PBA tour...
« on: February 18, 2005, 12:29:22 AM »
Hey guys and gals, other than Tom Baker, who is considered a true and pure stroker on tour? The reason for asking is because I've thought about changing my game up to do so. Already started on the 4-step approach and I seem to be getting the hang of it pretty well. The only other person(s) I can think of who are strokers are Voss and Duke, but I might be wrong on that one. Also, as a stroker, what is goal with this style of bowling? Thanks for the help.

Baker is more a Spinner than Stroker in my opinion.

PDW is considered a "Power Stroker", but a stroker none the less.

If you really want PURE stroker, I'd look at Richard Wolfe and Eric Forkel.

Richard Wolfe is left handed isn't he? Also, I'm noticing a pattern here. Most of the strokers that you all are mentioning are left handed. Are you telling me that there aren't that many strokers left on tour?

Back in the day The Doomsday Striking Machine could also have been called the Doomsday Stroking Machine.

Now here's a question for you.  If you've seen Mike Haugen bowl what would you call him?  Plants, but no heave; generally plays pretty straight, but can twist it; likes to play outside, but can go deep.  I'd be tempted to call him a stroker, but of an odd sort.

Stroker- Rick lawrence, Chris Hayden, Bakes, Forkel, Jack Jurek, Dale Traber, Hugh Miller

There is a difference between smooth and stroker. Ozio, Richy Wolfe, Duke have too much RPM's to be a pure Stroker.

Paul Fleming.

Patrick Healey is kind of a stroker as well, IMHO.

Yeah Patrick Healy! I knew there was someone else in there too. By the way, how does being a stroker have anything to do with revolutions. As far as I'm concerned, Bakes has to some pretty good turn on the ball but he's still a stroker. Same for Healy too.
