Ive been working on my pushaway and was wondering how pushing away in a left or right direction would benefit an inside or outside line? Thanks in advance.

I feel bad for the bowler''s defenceless equipement when the bowler is not bowling up to par. . . .don''t you?

Would not recommend it. Rather line up correctly to walk straight towards your target, and keep anything else straight as per usual. Anything else bears lots of mess potential.

Usually for a right hander pushing the ball towards the center (slightly to the left of the intended target line) would help feed the ball to the right, better for inside lines.  By cause and effect it will will help loop the ball back to the inside like a figure 8.  For playing out side a straight push away or one slight to the right of target line would do the same figure 8 but in reverse.  Just don''''t over as it''''s easy to get the ball behind you too much and could generate more inconsistency.  It''s something you can experiment with for sure.  You might want to use a video camera from behind to monitor how much your swing is be effected by your pushaway direction.  Bill Hall teaches the pushaway "box" that Danny Wiseman and Norm Duke use where you change your swing shape and direction by pushing the ball into one of 9 different zones depending on what your trying to accomplish.  It''s high level stuff for sure but the technique is out there to be learned if you want to spend the time on it.

Biggest thing is being able to repeat the motion on every shot. Generally having your arm off to your side to start is the best. However I have seen many people start with their arm in from of them similar to Chris Barnes and do very well with it. Only thing you can do is to try to see what is best for you. Just remember many people think that the only way to set up is with arm and ball more on your side. It will take a lot of practice to get use to any change as well as a lot of dedication to stick with it.

Did you watch the PBA telecast this past wekend.  Chris Barnes had a tip that answered your post.  I believe Dursty post is correct.

I'm pretty sure you meant Randy Peterson.

Dursty's reply is spot on.  And yes, it was Randy Pedersen (not Peterson) on the PBA telecast who gave that tip last Sunday.  Check out Big Wes' swing for a good figure-8 example on an inside shot.
