I do not normally use finger inserts. Recently, I drilled a couple balls with finger inserts and have noticed some interesting side effects, some I like, and some I do not like. My conclusion so far... it seems that there is a trade off. More power and better pin carry for less consistency in my release thus less accuracy at the pins.

On house conditions, it seems there the difference is nominal, but on flatter conditions it seems to be more obvious.

I am looking for others that have made the change, or attempted to do so, and hearing about your experiences. I am about ready to give up on them as I am not convinced there is a real advantage for me in using them.

Your post has the answers to your questions right in it.

On a house condition, finger inserts help you to 'hit' up and around the fingers.

On a flat sport or PBA condition, this may not be a desirable effect.

That being said, there are many variations of finger inserts. There are ovals, semi-ovals, power ovals, etc.

Experiment with a few of these and see if it helps your game.

i started with lift style finger grips, and those made me too inconsistent so i switched to no grips at all, but the problem i had with those is that it kept giving me all these weird blisters, so i switched to oval grips and haven't had any problems since. hey that was all one sentence

I've been using inserts for a long time and what I have personally found is that finger pitch has more to do with hit than the inserts themselves. About 4 years ago I switched over to the vacu-grip feel and for me I found the feel I was always looking for. The grips stay snug, I always fit in them (even with swelling) and with the secure feel I find that my finger pressure / hit is less.

or try slug inserts

not common but feels more solid then inserts but give a bit of grip like thumb slugs
