Pushing ball to the right!!!!!
« on: February 11, 2004, 05:19:22 AM »
What should i do if i keep pushing the ball right of my mark? And what am i doing to make my ball go right of the target? It seems that i am going right of the target when ever i play the first arrow and if i play the 3rd arrow. I actually go right more on the 3rd arrow shot than the first arrow shoot. With the 3rd arrow shoot the ball might go over the arrow but i will swing out to far right. WHat should i do to fix my problem.  IF someone can help please help me

MOST LIKELY, your swinging the ball behind ur back and therefore coming down and around pushing it right.

Shoulder movement during swing and/or delivery. Also drifting to the left (if you are right handed) and when you get to foul line and ready to deliver ball, you may be 4-5 boards or more too far left thus putting your mark that you are throwing at, too far to the right. Been there done that on this one.

Keeping your shoulders square to the lane is very important. If you are trying to play straight up the boards and hit third board, stand a few steps back from the foul line and only use your push off and slide. Your arm should act as a pendulum and only swing front to back. Try the push off and slide while releasing at a particular mark. Once comfortable, do it throughout your entire approach.
I used to have a problem with tugging the ball inside my mark, but that was caused by 2 things. Bad timing and dropping my shoulder!! Make sure your shoulders are square!!

There are two main reasons for consistently missing your mark or line right in my observation: (1) drifting right while keeping your alignment consistent and (2) raising up at the line. Check that you are probably tilted slightly right at the line, that your personal center of gravity is over the ball of your left foot and check and see whether you drifting.  If you are coming up at the line, it may be that your timing is sufficiently late that you are wanting to pop up at the line.

Since I am closer to your level of play I'll give you my take.

1)  In the stance make sure the ball is lined up with your shoulder so that you swing in a straight line.

2)  Keep your elbow in so that you don't chicken-wing.

3)  Keep your eye on your target until you've followed through.  Watch your ball pass over your target.

These are the main things that cause me to miss my target.

I'm a beginner like you and find that it's usually something simple that I'm doing wrong.
