Pre bowling warm up's
« on: March 09, 2016, 10:03:22 AM »
I will be coming back from a pulled muscle in my lower leg. What kind of pre bowling stretching should I start doing? and for how long. I don't want this to happen again, I hope!
There's two kinds of music METAL and bullshit!

You should definitely do some stretching of the calf by leaning on the wall with your hands and moving out your legs from the wall while keeping your feet flat. Look up calf stretches and you should find something.

l always do a stretch for my hip. The ankle over the opposing knee and press down gently on the upper knee to stretch the muscles around the hip.

I keep light pressure on the muscles for a count of at least 10 seconds, then repeat about two more times gradually increasing the intensity of the stretch.

try not to do cold start stretches. Jog in place, take a 5 min walk, or do something to get your heart rate up a get blood flowing.

There are many stretches you can do for the lower extremities, but don't ignore proper diet. It's also important to help keep muscles from fatigue and/or from injury.
Does a round object have sides? I say yes, pizza has triangles..

Great advice.  The old way of doing calisthenic type exercises before something more strenuous is no more.  Current sports medicine suggests the running or brisk walking and getting the heart rate up as the better pre-workout.  Once the heart rate is up, then one can do some stretches.

I do no pre-bowling exercises.  At my age I need to save all my energy for the actual bowling itself. I am north of 65. I do exercise on days when I am not bowling but
never on the same day. Not even stretches. I warm up slowly during shadow practice, but that's it.

I actually do the same thing.  I am usually too lazy to do anything else.

...but don't ignore proper diet.

Assuming this would not be the typical bowling alley menu?

A "proper diet" for me on tournament days is a McDonald's breakfast consisting of 2 sausage mcmuffins with egg, hash browns and 2 large coffees (seriously). No other
combination can get me through a marathon block like this.  I tried the oatmeal with yogurt and I ran out of gas halfway through the block.
