« on: February 28, 2014, 10:46:06 AM »
If you want your very own new (UNDRILLED) QUANTUM HELIX 15 Pound Bowling Ball, this very well may be your last chance.  It is a touch pricey but if you have ever used one of these balls then you know that they are well worth it.  Here is the link to your future bowling career (or at least to win a LOT of bets):

Good Luck to anyone who decides to bid and thanks for looking!   8)

That won't sell, but it would be a cool piece to have for a collector.  I liked the idea behind the Helix, but I think that I remember it just ended up being more gimmickie than anything.  I was 14 or so when it came out, so I don't remember completely.

What was the original price point?  $300 or so wasn't it?

wow...  no chick will ever roll up on me if she saw that ball in my bag.

I saw one person way back then who was throwing this ball. And another bowler at league was averaging 218 with a white dot.

My driller ran the pro shop at Carolier Lanes where they just held the USBC Masters, when Walter Ray won the (I think) Johnny Petraglia Open using one of these balls. MY driller was so happy thinking he'd finally get rid of the three he had laying around for a long time.  Not one of those Helixes was sold because of WRW's win.And Yes, those Quantum balls retailed for $300 back then. The Helix came out aorund Jan. 1997; the Double Helix (the one that actually worked) came out in October 1997.

Ahh I didn't know there was a helix and double helix.  $350 for a bowling ball lol.  The funny thing is you can get 3 low end balls that way outdoes the Helix and still not spend as much :)

CrispyBrownies has a NIB double Helix. I think he wants $1000 for it though.

I suspect he will own it for a while at that price.  ;D

I just drilled a helix recently and it definatly is a ball for drier conditions this day in age.

To be honest, I don't think it was much more than that in it's "day". :)

I had the Double Helix. Ball was great and won me a City tournament about 15 years ago.

Back in the early 2000's, I started buying these because I thought they were a cool idea and they were dirt cheap.  I can remember paying $20 to $30 on eBay...that was when shipping was $12 to $15.  I think I had 2 or 3 helixes and 5 or 6 of the doubles.  I drilled one of the doubles for myself and remember it being a bit over/under.  In the oil it would skate, but when you hit the dry, it would take off like crazy...  did have a couple decent sets with it though.  Ended up selling the stash a few years later for about the same as I had paid...  If only I would have known...  oh wait, just because they asked 7 bills, doesn't mean they will sell...

Anyone holding onto either the Helix or Double Helix needs to be aware that the materials can and will separate...  Local shop has some lighter weight one's that have split between the urethane ring and the reactive cap...

Had one back when they came out never found a shot where it was the best option. Ended up giving it to another bowler. The Quantum I liked was the Forest green version. Sadly it is no more.

I had a nib double helix I drilled back in 2007ish. It rolled decent. Id say its a step up from straight urethane. So obviously the ball was for drier conditions. With all of the urethane hype the past few years I could see where people would be interested in trying the ball out.
