Question
« on: December 19, 2007, 10:12:35 PM »
I have been having trouble getting a good amount of revs on the ball when I hit oil and have to slow my ball speed down. I am at a loss as to why the slower I have been throwing the ball the less hand I can get in it.

I have tried lowering the ball as low as possible in my stance, with as small of a back swing as possible but still I notice a significant loss in revs. No matter how hard I am throwing the ball it is covering the same amount of boards, maybe even more boards with a higher ball speed. It is really effecting my scoring in my heavier oil league. As I am a 218 average compared to a 199. The house with more oil is a little bit of as tougher show but not that much. Once 3rd game rolls around I usually put up at least a 240 game.

You probably are like me and generate a lot of your power through your armswing.  If you are like me, if you don't unleash a ton of power on the ball with your wrist at the bottom of the swing, you will notice a lower rev rate when you slow you arm speed down.  However, just remember than when the lanes are oily, you don't necessarily need to cover a lot of boards -- you just need to get the ball into a strong roll and generate entry angle into the pocket.  That sometimes means coming up the back of the ball more to reduce axis rotation and therefore reduce skid.

Its easier to generate revs if your backswing is good. Its all in the technique. Maybe you have a ball thats not made for heavy oil?
