Question about buying a new ball on here..
« on: January 18, 2011, 02:05:15 AM »
I was wanting to know some opinions on an issue from all the good ballreviews peeps.

If you purchased a NIB ball from a user on here and when you received the ball, the original box was not there.

I know its just a piece of cardboard but it does have the box specs on it which to me is pretty important to have.

Is this something that you would be upset with if you were not told ahead of time the original box would not be included?

Any pro shop can weigh out the ball and give you the "box" specs.  If they do not match what the seller told you, than you have a complaint.

If it is described as NIB, then it should be New In its Original box in my opinion. To state as being NIB and not having the box seems to be dishonest.

I am not sure it is dishonest, but I think it should be something that is disclosed in the conversations prior to sealing the deal..

I kind of agree with this opinion, but I wouldn't consider it dishonest.
I would want to know ahead of time that I was not getting the original box. That has happened to me but the seller had said so :they were sitting on display in a pro shop for a while, the couple of times it has happened to me.
After all "NIB" stand for "new in box", but implies "New in Original Box".

NIB stands for New in Box NIOB stands for new in ORIGINAL box  lol Just kidding.

I do agree, I would like to have the original box, but I wouldn't make a fuss if he told me what the specs were.

Like a lot of us that have been on here a while have said Communication is the key, just tell me you don't have the original box.  As long as I have the specs and it is in good condition when it gets here, I don't care what it comes in.

Look at the whole picture.   The odds are you purchased it below or close to distributor price if you bought it on here. I would imagine its 1st quality, you can check the specs on a scale and if the specs match, you got a great deal on a brand new ball.

To nit pick about a box seems like a waste of time to me.

The price paid makes zero difference to me. Yes of course most of the time on here you get a great deal but I just think telling the buyer ahead of time everything is the best way to do business regardless of the price. I have bought and sold on here for years and always make it a point to let the perspective buyer know everything about the ball ahead of us sealing the deal.

If you feel its being nit picky, thats fine..

It is New, that you seem to agree. Not having the original box is something that is not that important to some/many. However, I'd think if the seller knew he/she didn't have to original box, it'd been part of the "For Sale" description.

Dishonest, not really.

Not totally truthful, I'd say more the case.

The guy didn't send you the box, and your saying you got screwed in a round about way.  You have two ends of the spectrum.  Honesty and Dishonesty.  If you feel that the box creates a dishonest taste in your mouth, than you in some way feel you got "screwed".   It's either you got a good transaction or a bad transaction.    If the specs of the ball match what the guy told you they are, who the heck cares if its got a box.

Seriously people need to get with reality and not make mountains out of mole hills.  If ball has specs and seller was honest about specs, ball gets drilled up as normal and buyer gets good deal and happy.

We spend more time nit picking about a box than doing something about the world we live in.

Let's say for the sake of argument you saved $25 buying this ball.  Was it worth the it to you, even if the ball did not come in the correct box?  Why even bother to nit pick about the box.

I just posted this question to get some opinions and I have yours so thanks for replying.. If your opinion is its a waste of time, then no reason to reply anymore.

Your obviously unhappy you did not get a box, nor would you post about it on the web site.   It's obvious it bothers you to some degree and you feel that you didn't get a "fair" shake in your transaction.

The box is simply a transportation container.    What if the seller had written on the substituted box the correct specs?  Would the seller have to state that in his sale as well?

Like I said, in my opinion if the ball does not match the specs you are told than your transaction was dishonest,   because you didn't get the cardboard transportation container and have a  issue is a tad bit too much.  This does not in my opinion have anything to do with dishonesty.   The odds are the person didn't even think about it.

Ok, maybe not dishonest. How about "false advertising"?

The box isn't that big a deal to me of course. But I know when I'm selling a ball, and don't have the original box, I make sure to put that in my listing. I just figure it might make a difference to some people.
