Question About Grips
« on: March 02, 2016, 03:08:50 PM »
Over the last year or two I've noticed something strange with some of my grips. As they wear down/get used more, sometimes they actually get smaller and tighter. It's weird because it's happening in different balls and sometimes they wear down like they normally would. The only grips I've used for years are the clear Turbo Grips Quads, and all supposedly the same size too. Has anybody else seen something like this? I'm considering a change to Vise or maybe even Contour just to see if it makes a difference.

Do you change your grips regularly?

Once my grips starts feeling soft, or if I happened to forget my ball in the trunk in the summer and my grips lose their integrity, I replace them. In a season, I changed my grips once with Vise. WIth the turbo quads, maybe 3 times a year? I forget.
Does a round object have sides? I say yes, pizza has triangles..

Yeah, usually once or twice a season per ball depending on how much use it gets. What I forgot to mention before is that when the grips seem to get smaller they're not nearly as worn out as they should be when I change them (so a shorter life-span) which is why it's a problem.

Been using grips for a long, long time. Never heard of them getting smaller; they always compress over time with use and get larger.

Are you sure you're not encountering extra humidity or you've gained weight and your finger have gotten larger or swollen from the humidity or maybe extra salt intake?

Yep. I've been at the same weight/general body composition for a while now. It's not extra humidity either, that's been pretty much the same the last couple of years as it has always been. Shouldn't be anything related to salt intake either since my diet hasn't changed much. I rarely eat during or just before bowling as well, and once the grips seem to get smaller they're always too small so it's not like my fingers are changing size. At first I thought it was my fingers swelling up a bit for whatever reason but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Like I said, it's weird. If I put in a new set of grips they fit exactly like they should too. It's not a particularly big deal to buy new grips and switch them out but I was just wondering if anybody else experienced anything similar.

Other than all of sudden your fingers developed huge calluses, I have no better guess. Maybe someone else does.

Storm and roto grip filler cores swell and cause grips to compress..something I've observed.

I feel that those grips (the clear versions) run slightly smaller....I have them in two balls and both are the tightest fit over the Turbo Colored Quads...I have no clue why

?? My Ride and Trop. Breeze Hybrid, recent acquisitions, don't seem to do that. Neither did my Wrecker and some older Storm and RG balls.
