Question about pre-bowling
« on: October 06, 2009, 03:16:40 AM »
I have a question about pre-bowling. I had to pre-bowl for one of my leagues and I bowled a 300 and had a 700 series. I know that I don't get a ring or anything, but I was wondering how others leagues work. Do you still get listed as high scratch game and series or is that not allowed either?

That said, I also notice since I start bowling at 7pm on sunday nights, there are hardly and children running around and causing distractions.  I notice that "Disco Bowling" or whatever it is called never happens during League play, however a few years ago is started in the middle of a time I had already started to pre bowl.  I notice that league players have a certain thing called lane courtesy, while at other times ... not so much.  I notice that the food servers are much more attentive during League time, and thus I don''t feel weakened due to a lack of caloric intake when and high sugar Dr Pepper ingestion.  When I pre bowl, I rent 1 lane for an hour or so, and bring my kids, girlfriend and kid, and they also all bowl.  It''s more fun for me to bowl with someone than by myself.  So much for a ''transitional'' advantage.

Wow!  That's a whole lotta excuses.  You sound like one of those clowns that slam the ball back on the return if someone steps up onto the approach two lanes over.

And no, it is not small stuff when you bowl second shift on burned up lanes and the team you faced pre-bowled on fresh lanes, shooting lights-out, and losing knocks you out of the league championship.

Sorry for your loss.  If my post is taken in it''s entirety, (you edited my post, and didn''t take into account the posts mine was responding to) I made no excuses but rather had a ''whatever happens, happens'' attitude.  And I did not get upset or complain about any of my examples, though some are (of course) said "tongue in cheek".  I was simply pointing out that the percieved advantage of prebowling is largely just that: percieved.

You, however, blamed losing a league championship on the other team pre-bowling on (as you claim) "fresh lanes".  That is the only excuse I see anywhere here.

I shared with you the story about the team pre-bowling costing us a shot at the league championship as an example of A. when a team pre-bowling does have a distinct advantage and B. when the distinct advantage affected not just one week's scores, but the entire league championship and the monies involved.  The team set the season team high score for game and series.  They would not have bowled this well if they showed up.  Yes.  This is just an excuse for us not bowling in the league championship, but it's a damn good one.

I agree with that.

To be fair, I approach all of this from a guy who bowls strictly for fun on a Sunday night league.  No $$ involved, it is very low key.  That is why I bowl then, I am very low key and I bowl strictly for fun.  My competition on any given night is myself.  If we kick butt, great!  If we get our butts kicked, also great.  We try our best, and we enjoy each other''s company, and have a lot of fun.  When I do not bowl well under the given conditions I am disappointed and have an extra swig of Dr Pepper, or two.  I do understand, though, the concern of those who have taken bowling to a much more serious level.  My only difference is that I don''t quite take as a given the reality of that concern.

Forget the "Thanks to Robby" mentality. It should have been outlawed decades ago!
