Question concerning pace...
« on: September 28, 2004, 09:40:50 AM »
Okay, the majority of you all participate in a league.  My question to you is....during league play, how much of your game is affected by the inconsistent pace?  What aspect is affected more?  Mental?  Physical?

Do you allow "Willie the Waiter" who bowls anchor on the opposing team affect you game by waiting 4 minutes between shots?  If you bowl poorly, do you blame it on "Willie"?  Just wondering how many of us allow simple frustrations to cause us to "stray off the path" ...

I get thrown off mentally and physically. I tend to bowl better when there is a consistant, semi-fast pace going. When I stop, and start to think about other things I get all screwed up.

I think we all bowl better is there is a consistent pace, but I've gotten to the point that I just sit and wait until it's my turn and don't worry about how long it is between shots (or at least try to).  If I bowl poorly, it MY fault, not the lanes, not another player, not the pace, just me.

BAD bowling is ALWAYS my fault. HOWEVER .. BOWLER who won't bowl unless they have TWO lanes free on EACH SIDE of them .. GET TO ME! Bowlers who have a very difficult shot (7/10; 4/6/7/10, 7/9/10, etc.) and stand on the approach for EXTENDED times aiming .. then throw in the GUTTER .. blow my mind. Blaming them for my BAD BOWLING doesn't even enter my mind .. but .. THEY DO BOTHER ME!

When having to bowl against a bowler who takes an extended period of time on the approach, I balme myself if I let them get to me.  I usually just wait to even start to get ready until they have started moving towards the foul line.

Then there are those bowlers whose styles are so strange, just watching them hurts.  i have to look away until the are done with their delivery.

most of my teammates are ready to bowl as they get the rack set.  i prefer a slower pace, but only as slow as it takes to bowl.  if people are messing around or whatever, wasting time eating or whatever, that gets on my nerves pretty easily

Inconsistent pacing does not really affect my game, unless there has been a lane breakdown that lasts more than 10 minutes. Sometimes after that long of a wait you can have trouble coming out of the ball cleanly. If there are people on my pair or to the left or right of me that are very slow, I plan accordingly and just go through my pre-shot routine.

If I bowl poorly, I have no one to blame but myself. Any lane condition can be scorable if you make spares and get the occasional strike. Lately my spare shooting has been my demise in averaging over 190 in one house and over 220 in the other...
