Does anyone here "collect" bowling balls?
« on: May 25, 2011, 03:57:19 AM »
The reason I ask is, I think I'm close to starting.

A while back, I bought a reasonably hard to find ball NIB that I was going to use, but when I got it, I couldn't bring myself to actually put holes in it, and never did.

Now I've gotten a second one with the same thought in mind, but I'm having the same problem, I don't think I can bring myself to put holes in it. Not only that, but the thought of owning it in the NIB condition sort of pleases me.

I've got plenty of other stuff to throw, when I finally get back to bowling, so I don't "need" them, but having them after looking for them so long feels good.

Am I just another nut, or do other people do this too?

I have about 75 balls, new and used, newer and older. At my worst, I was looking at about 120....lol

The basketball with the grooves!  I have an unpunched Lt48 with a very low number and a few others.  At one time I put them in the front window of our pro shop.  I traded for a couple cases of Yellow dots and managed to get a couple bleeders.  The odd balls got attention and brought people in to the shop.

thats funny how things are everywhere. Down here in south FL either people are too old too care about vintage stuff, or too young to even know what a LT48 is. lol.

You are definitely not the only one, I've heard of a bunch of people that collect them.  I have a friend that has a cabinet full of NIB Gems.  He has upwards of 75 NIBs, including gems like, Original Inferno (USA), various quantums, Columbia Beasts, several faball hammers, Orange Dot, 2 or 3 Yellow dot bleeders, Sur D pro!, and that's just a few of them.  I was in heaven when he showed them to me.

Personally I have 60+ bowling balls used and NIB.

NIBs are
Black, Pink, Burgundy Hammers
Cuda/C
Orange Pirahna
Original Inferno
Orange Dot
Crown Jewel 75
Teal Rhino Pro
and a few others I can't think of off the top of my head.

So yeah, if you want to start collecting bowling balls, I say do it.  Its quite satisfying.  BUT don't do it if your going to feel guilty, and make sure you have a place to store them all... I am officially out of room. hah.

I think its a fine idea... the eye of the beholder kinda thing, I know a number of people that keep vintage guitars on their walls never to play but just to admire... I think bowling balls could be looked at in a similar light
