I'm not a top scratch player but I am pretty serious about the sport and with my collegiate tournaments included I'd say I bowl between 18-23 tournaments a year. During the college season I make sure I work out at least 25-30 games a week. Tuesdays I usually take 2 hours out for spareshooting, then bowl a few team games. Wednesdays and Thursdays I lay down 3 different sport compliant shots in our school's bowling alley and practice for 2-3 hours. Then Friday I bowl about 6-8 games with my teammates just for fun(if we don't leave to goto the weekend's tournament on friday night). Even when we leave Friday night, we try to get to the tournament site to bowl a few games. In addition to this, I have a pretty big library of bowling tapes which I make sure I watch whenever I want to incorporate something new into my game, or just to study how pros make lane adjustments etc. Other than that, I just stay bowling focused everyday and I'm always trying to learn something new. During the Summertime, I bowl leagues thursday and friday, I'll usually bowl 5-8 games tuesday night, watch my friends bowl on wednesday night and then pot bowl or find a tournament on the weekends. Just stay sharp and committed, you'll see the improvements come.
-P.S. Never practice by yourself! Always make sure that a friend or someone that knows the game is there to help you out, and point out the things you are doing right and wrong.
-P.P.S. Practice isn't about scoring, it's about working on something. So never go out just to play one line on the lane to see how much you can strike. Practice different lines. Use a ball that isn't for the condition so you're forced to make spares and shoot double wood combinations.
That's about it.
