JOG Question
« on: July 07, 2007, 08:00:29 PM »
I know, I know, there is a youth board on here, but I felt this belonged more in the MISC. section.

So, I'm reading the participating junior's blog's and I come across Jessica Baker's from today.  It goes on saying how she slept past her alarm, etc, etc, then gets to a pretty puzzling section.

"I checked in, then at 1:30 pm I practiced @ Airport Lanes which had the Chameleon pattern. I decided to practice with my friend Jake, it is always nice to be able to discuss things with someone who also has a good idea of how the lanes are playing- house played a little weird considering there are about 5 different bays with lanes. I mainly used my Vapor Zone and my Fury. I was able to get comfortable on a few different parts of the lane, and overall I felt it went well.

From there I went to the 4 pm session @ Transit Lanes which had the shark pattern- it definetaly played different than any shark pattern I have seen... again things were a little tough with the surface being older wood & me not physically throwing it the best- but I tried to make the best of it and ended up being satisfied playing further in with my Vapor Zone."

Say it isn't so.  Are they really putting out PBA patterns for JOG this year?  Over the years, I've come to have known JOG putting out tough, undisclosed shots year after year.  To hear they're putting out PBA shots is kind of a joke.  It's going to be nothing new to most players out there, as PBA experience leagues are basically everywhere.  What does everyone else think of this?

IMO, the overall talent level is at its highest point since 2002 at JOG.  The bowlers are getting smarter, with better equipment, and that leads to higher scoring.

One name that comes to mind is Adam Dugan...absolutely nothing special and has pretty much not been heard of since his "stint" on Team USA. Not saying he's not good, because he obviously was for that one week, but I'm sure there were much better players that could have been chosen that simply didnt hit it as hard as he did that week.

Coming from Texas, the name Dugan leaves a bad taste in my mouth, but that's an entirely different story. I agree that Adam couldn't hook the ball to save his life but you've got to respect someone who has mastered spares. Spares get too overlooked in todays world of messangers and light swish hits. Adam fell right into the old format perfectly, with more match play and more grueling patterns. The guy is a prick off the lanes but he was always around the pocket when the shots broke down and got nasty. He could throw it straight when others couldn't and it prevailed. No matter who you are you've gotta respect that.

i really didnt ready any of the posts, on here but i am in buffalo. yes they are PBA shots but they are far from easy. i bowled at transit last night, and it was rough for me. i had absolutely one board at the break point, anthing in or out wasn't good. i finished the block at -117 and im around the 400th spot. the patterns are difficult. out of 600+ bowlers on the chameleon, 9 are plus. the long played easier today, tuesday than monday night, only 6 people went plus on the long on monday, i think the weather deffinetly played into fact that the scores were up. i heard the short was easy to some but the breakpoint had to be out.

im going to airport lanes tomarrow to bowl on the chameleon, and i will post up and let you guys know how i did. i went and watched a squad tonight and it seemed playable but nothing amazing.

as for the patterns, they are tough we found out the ration on the long is 1.6 to 1. which is a legal and very hard sport shot.

just my .02

my gf bowled the long pattern today with a scorchin inferno sanded to 160 abralon...ball was money, she had 2 bad games of 156 due to 3 splits in each game 2 of each being 4 9...but other than that the shot looked fairly easy and consistent everyone that was striking was getting there ball to 15 at about 36ft and 10 at about 45ft i believe...wutever the spotting boards are at the end inbetween those people were striking...

Yes they are Modified PBA shot and where are there PBA experience places, i got to drive almost 3 hours to get to a house that might, and when i say might i mean $300 worth of might pyt down anything over a house shot. I wish i could get some more partice on a sport shot maybe i would have better scores but idk, im just want to go home right now, say screw 3rd set.

To put my input into this sinc my hotel finallyn fixed the internet.. THEY ARE BEING CALLED PBA PATTERNS BUT PLAY NOTHING LIKE THEM.

I so far have bowled on the Medium (Chameleon) and Long (Shark).. and both played nothing like it on tour or on any that I've bowled on.

They are severly modified and have a MUCH lower oil ratio than they do on tour.

The Shark seemed the be the easiest, and just bowling on the Chameleon.. averaging 180 is about what everyone is doing.. extremelty hard.. the ratio is 1.56:1 (In the Kegal training book that's called "Cruel and unusual punishment")

Lol.. good luck to everyone tonight and tomorrow as the finish.. I get the short tomorrow.. which plays harder.. so believe me.. it aint no Cheetah.

Cheetah isn't TOO bad. It's not nearly as hard as Chameleon was though. Phew, hopefully I can make Shark my highest scoring, too.

well as most say, the chameleon abosolutely was dreadful, transition started for me in the 7th frame of the first game and it was a dreadful next 5 games there was nothing to look forward to. the best look i had is pointing it up 5-6 and letting it roll, with my amazing block of 918 im completely out of it. i hope to bowl well on the cheetah feeling i have the ability to play up the guitar. i look to go even or plus tomarrow to end the dread of bowling.

i came into this tournament with an open mind, and what i thought a good mental game. well as i realize now im know where near ready mentally for this stuff. only the true well rounded bowlers succeed. well until tomarrow

Well, it looks like the scores are going down, so that's a good thing.

And here i felt the shark was the hardest mainly because i have no pin action at transit, the pins just felt dead for me. The chameleon has been the easiest for me so far, and today i finish up with the cheetah. Hopefully i will do much better on the cheetah. I was pretty much screwed out by the shark(transit) just because i had no pin action there. I had a great ball to the pocket all day just no pin action.

To each his own then, I guess. I sucked on Chameleon. I had nothing for 5 games. I was able to get lined up on Cheetah for a while. Hopefully I can do well today on Shark. Everyone keeps telling me to play inside and aim for the breakpoint to be 15. During practice, I was going up 10, but carry was questionable (although, it was a third shift Shark, so carrydown wasn't helpful in that at all).
