Brunswick needs to find a different way to mark CG's
« on: March 11, 2004, 08:05:06 AM »
I don't know how many times I've drilled B balls for people (that aren't familiar with the technical aspects of balls and drilling), and after I bring it out to them, they'll look it over, and they all do the same thing.  They see the CG mark, frown, and start picking it at it with their fingernail.  Then there's the cheesy grin and token chuckle as they say, "I get a couple bucks off for this, right?"  I'm like, "No, that's supposed to be there."  Blink.  Another cheesy grin, and a sarcastic, "Sure it is," follows.  Then I have to explain the whole thing about the pin and CG relation to the core, and drilling, and proceed to show them every other Brunswick ball we have so I can prove it's not blemished.  With Storm, Roto, Dyno, Columbia, Track, Ebonite, probably all other companies, the CG looks like it's supposed to be there, whether the customer knows why it's there or not.

Yeah, that's another question people ask too.  "So if that's the CG, what are the rest of the holes?"  Hard to explain, and it makes it look even worse.

Hamster Resurgence & tenpinspro,

Are Brunswick's ball so accurately marked that you never have to re-mark the CG after you've measured it for yourself?
I would think that they'd occasionally be mismarked and that the true CG mark that you put on the ball before measuring for drilling would raise many more questions than the original punch by Brunswick.

As to your original problem, Politely suggest that these dunces look at all the Brunswick balls that are on display on your shop's walls, after they make that dumb comment.

I make a punch mark with my bevel knife on both the cg I determine and the grip center I use.  Customers occasionally ask about these, but readily accept my explanation.  --  JohnP
