question, help me please
« on: March 25, 2004, 11:31:00 PM »
Ok I have this problem that instead of my hand coming straight up in release it crosses over like Im patting my opposite shoulder. Could I have gotten this habit from trying to turn a ball to much, trying to make a non reactive ball hook? I used to throw a fingertip urethane scout as my strike ball, and tried to hook it, could I have gotten into this habit by trying to put a lot of side roll on it?

AM not A CHICK OF BOWLING but I wanted to be in Manda's clique And why would I "saw" pins in half, THATS A WASTE OF PINS! I'd rather blow it over with my storm, and 21mph ball speed on dry shots.

Probably.  Either that, or you swing your arm out on the backswing, and it goes diagonally.  But I don't think I've seen you do that, so it's probably just old muscle memory.

I've changed my sig about 9 times in the last day, and I probably will do it again the next time I log on.

How was your day?

No offense, but you 2 spend a lot of times answering your own questions.  You are both beginners.  If you had the answers, you'd already be scoring better.  Don't get me wrong, it's great to have someone who can watch you bowl and give input, but it could be misguided.  You also don't have multiple releases and can't effectively raise or lower your tracks.  These things take time to develop.  Read and practice the tips that are available until you Nail the basics.

Not trying to be ignorant, but what are you talking about?  He was asking a question....i don't see the part where we thought we knew everything....If we thought we "had all the answers", why would he be asking a question?  I don't really understand where you're coming from here.  But of course, you have more experience than i do, so i'll leave it at that.

my vote is for the number one culprit in most bowlers issues.

Squeezing the ball.

you can not have a free swing if you squeeze the ball. You losses revs unless you finish off the muscled swing with a muscled grip it and rip it release.

maybe you have all of the above. work on not choking the life out of the ball and see where that takes you.

I know you will say "I don't squeeze..."

simple test. take your stance on the approach. have some one squeeze your bowling arm biceps. My money says it's tense. try this. support all the weight of you ball in your opposite hand. use that non bowling hand to start your pushaway. don't worry about your hand position let the ball fall and turn your hand what every way it wants. this will be your most natural baseline to start with.

do this for a 50 games or so. don't work on anything else. don't keep score if possible. Now once you have this muscle memory feeling going, then worry about accelerating your hand through the ball for more revs.
