Quick Question for everyone
« on: June 09, 2009, 02:04:44 AM »
I was just wondering how many people are brand specific or have multiple brands in their bag. Whenever I read a forum, people just want to make a lineup of balls with just that brand and I do not understand why.

If the company is not paying you or supplying you with free balls, you really should look at mixing brands with other brands, I think your arsenals will become a little more complete. In my bag, I have two balls to use on oil, a One Pearl and a Virtual Gravity. The OP when I want a ball to hook on the back, the VG when I need something to roll earlier and stop on the back. For Medium stuff, I like to use a Gravity Shift and a Vortex 1; I also double the V1 for lighter to go along with a Crimson Phantom Urethane ball.

So I was just wondering what was the majority, one brand or multiple.

Thanks

I'm Utah specific....lol.

I used to throw almost exlusively Columbia, but in the past couple of years only Storm and Roto Grip make it into my bag.

I don't know what it is, but their stuff just seems to roll better for me...and I have a lot of confidence in them.

Whatever I can afford at the time! Right now it is Roto and Storm. Before that it was Track and Columbia. I tried an occasional Ebonite, Visionary, Lanemasters thrown in. I did not like them. That is why I stuck with Utah.

I am not fixed on a certain brand - when I find a certain gap in my arsenal, I check out which ball potentially might be a good basis, more or less regardless of the manufacturer and depending on local availability. I have also tried some brands just to get to know the equipment, to have a sound basis for comparisons - if you cannot judge th stuff, it is hard to tell if a "foreign" brand product will do the right things for you. That can actually be a good argument to stick with just manufacturer - it reduces the information "costs". But it potentially limits your horizon...

Agreed!  What ever does the job.  I am not a ball freak but I have in my travel set:

Brunswick Green LT-48
Track Hex
Hammer Vicious Attack
Hammer Sauce
ABS Lane Navi
Storm Pyro
Columbia Sanded Power Drive
Sometimes a Lane#1 Uranium

Nothing really new.  I will play with new stuff and as it fits remove others and place the new ball.

I'm very open but besides my Liberator from Lane #1 the rest of my bag is all Utah equipment. I'm not brand specific its just what i've acquired of late. I'm always open to any company because until i'm getting paid or hooked up to use one company it will not happen.

It doesn't matter much to me. I prefer Storm and 900 Global, but will use others. I have a Slate Blue Gargoyle, Resurgence, Strike Zone, and will be getting the Raw Hammer Burn.

i usually throw whatever has 3 holes and fits me, regardless of the brand.  I'm scoring the best with a double helix and paradigm right now

I prefer Roto Grip and Hammer, but will throw whatever works.

Currently in the bag:

1. Roto Horizon Solid
2. Roto Super Sonic
3. Azo Pure Tactics
4. AMF Hawk
5. Hammer Wheel
6. Roto Ultra Sonic

I'm only throwing Track right now.  Honestly, it's for no other reason other than the first ball that was given to me when I worked in an alley a long time ago was a Track ball.  I have thrown C300, Ebo, Brunswick, Hammer, etc. in the past and may be opening my horizons again soon.

I'm not brand-specific as longevity-specific.  Any of the companies with reputations for extremely long-lasting equipment, I'll try.  I have several old Dynothane Soakers and two Lanemasters balls.  I'd like to try Visionary and 900 Global, but I only get a new ball about every other year and I just got one about two months ago.
