I've noticed that coldhas the MOST effect on super glue. When it gets really cold, the glue get's fragile, and when there it impact being throwning the down the lane, or slamming them into the back of the car.
Climate also has a lot to do with it. I live in Las Vegas and I set the air conditioning in my house to 72, outside in the summer its about 100-115. I drive an S.U.V so my balls are only in the outside temperature for about 2 minutes at most. But people who drive cars and put their equipment in the trunk don't think about the fact that, most if not all trunks in cars lack air conditioning that makes the temperature in there around I would guess 110-125 degrees. 30-45 degrees is a big temperature change in that quick of a time. That temperature change cn cause the glue to become fragile and crack.
I use Switch Grips and have also had this problem. I use 220 sand paper around the outer sleeve, wipe of the sanding dust, and use a quick setting epoxy.
One thing I have noticed that for some reason when I drill plastic balls, and I'm talking about 15-16lb plastic balls here, the holes tend to be a bit bigger compared to reactive, urethane or particle bowling balls, using the same exact bit. Plastic balls are where I have had the most problems with slugs coming out. Myself and customers included in this observation.
