pro shop prices

i was at a pba regional tournament this weekend watching the action and couldn't help noticing some prices on items and services in the pro shop at this bowling center:

brunswick bowling balls( includes drilling )


copperhead & swarm $175
ultra zone $200
avalanche series $150


morich bowling balls( includes drilling )

n'sane levrg & n'tense levrg  $240


finger grips $6 apiece


i'm not in the pro shop business so i'm not sure but these prices seem high to me. anyone ?

u guys think that is HIGH??? a BW here is 195 without grips and slugs and tax, resurgance is 210 without grips and slugs and tax. i find it goes by area also, some areas are higher than other.

Things are a little goofy here in Oklahoma.  Everyone we have seen so far except us charge by the type of ball being drilled and not the type work performed. To drill a Reactive ball is $35, a Urethane ball is $30 and Plastic is $20. Prices for bowling balls is surprisingly low but shoe cost is high.  Different areas have different systems.

Smash, I agree. Duggan at Blvd Bowl in Edmond has ball priced without drilling-grips-slug whereas Donnie at Heritage in OKC has the ball priced "drilled and out the door".

We pay about $400 - $475 for a ball...  

Drilling, slug and grips included..

Was in Moscow,Russia Brunswick balls were about 550 dollars american drilled. Talk about high lineage about 10 bucks a game, these guys get gouged huge.

I just got a NIB Morich Solid LevRG on eBay for $80 shipped.  My shop charges $80 to drill a ball not purchased there, including grips and slug.  They are charging $240 for this same ball and charge $60 to drill a ball purchased there, including grips and slug.  I will gladly pay the extra $20 to get it drilled and buy online for $140 cheaper.  I have seen lots of other examples of saving a lot of $ by buying online and not at my pro shop:
-Hammer Black Widow Venom...$210 in shop vs. $110-120 shipped online
-Roto-Grip Cell...$190 in shop vs. $100-115 shipped online
-Morich 'NSane LevRG...$240 in shop vs. $100-125 shipped online
-Brunswick Fury (yeah, they still have some)...$200 in shop vs. $80-100 shipped online

I did not search thru eBay as I would probably not buy from there as you have majority of sellers adding exhorbitant shipping rates.

So, if your driller charges you $80.00 you are basically saving maybe $15 - $20 max.  I don't see the big dollar savings except on the Morich LevRg.

I'd still go to my pro shop in these cases as he will warranty any problems and on-line sellers you will have to ship the ball back.

The guy I go to is good.  Widows, which are really all I have bought from him are like $189 out the door.  I bought my original Widow on eBay, took it to him and saw a saving of like $20...wasn't worth it to me.  Now I can just call him, tell him what I want, and how I want it..and it's ready in a couple days.

I will buy online when wanting to experiment with something, or looking for a ball that is discontinued..anything new, it's from the shop.

I don't blame the shops for higher prices, they need to make money somehow.  Sadly the economy is going in the pooper, and a lot of folks can't afford it..so everyone feels it in the end.

Widows are like fish.  We take the top 3 Internet distributors average the price, tack on the drill charge and that's the price.  Inserts and slug $12.50 extra.  At least once a month we have this same thread.  Why would I buy a ball from a Pro Shop for $50 more than the Internet and then still have to pay to get it drilled???    You can buy the ball online and have the shop drill it and save $50.  We have been Internet competitive for years.

Widow Bites and Pearls sell for $169.95 Drilled + Tax. Inserts and Slugs $12.50 + Tax extra.

I think that high performance balls are never going to be a money maker for pro shops....

In the one I work at....we make our profit killings on the mid priced and low end equipment....

We are starting to actually tell our customers to get the high performance items off the internet. We charge 35 bucks to drill a ball not ours...9 bucks for thumb slug...4.50 for insters...

By doing this we really keep our costs down and make very good profit on drilling and such...
