random rant
« on: May 26, 2008, 04:21:20 PM »
tonight, with my agent surfaced with 400 grid and rough buff, went to my league

the ball reacted perfect out of the dry, but gah, its the first time i leave more than 5 "pocket 7-10" in 3 games, not counting a solid 8 and a solid 9.

this is one of the time i wish i have a window next to me so i can just throw it out.

When a house bowler misses the mark, misses the break point and strike, for many ppl its called a wallshot. When a pro does that its call adjustment

When a house bowler gets his finger stuck in the ball and fall on the lanes, for many ppl its called lame bowler. When a pro does that its called the Machuga flop! ha i like this one.

Sorry about that. Sounds like either you were just a little off last night or the Agent with that finish was just the wrong ball. House shots can be very nasty that way: every ball seems to get to the pocket, but few carry well. Sometimes it can be a very difficult lane read.

If the ball Worked well on the lane, then it might have been a simple entry angle problem. Did you try different lines, or just insisted on your "usual" shot. Even though THS can be pretty easy, the results can vary - minute adjustments can make a big difference in pin mix upon a clean pocket hit.

I just had this case in training last Saturday. We have a new oil pattern - 42' with 20ml of oil, pretty flat and buffed areas all around. Not soupy, but longer. I tried my Awesome Finish after good results with my FMG on the same line, a slight swing shot across 13th board at the arrows, with more side roll and hand than normal for recovery and carry.
The AFi would recover well on the short back end, but this first game was dotted with 3 splits, including a pretty 7-10, after basically very good pocket hits.
Then I decided to move my line towards the gutter, moving my target to the 2nd arrow and play straighter down the lane - and out of a sudden those gruesome pocket hits carried the deck and I made a 238 clean game - just through a different line and a slightly steeper entry angle of the ball from further outside.

absolutly what I see here in Germany... you have almost at every house a "THS" in some sort of way... some layout more... broader... or longer oil but in general hittingthe pocket is not the problem.
The problem is to make sure the ball carries...
at least that's my problem with our house shots here...

The one center has one drier shorter pattern ... the other lays out different patterns... al more or less THS but very different in oil volumen and often broader or tighter.
We sometimes experiecen OOB outside 5 but that is not often (only when the "pros" train then the staff lays out that harder pattern)

Well... have fun!

I had a Scorchin Inferno like that.  8 weeks of abosolute bliss and then it became oil logged.  Took me forever to get it all out.  Left the ball on the porch, heaters, water bathes you name it.  Finally it works again.

hehe thanks for the replies

heres how i played it last night, i started as far outside as i could, hittin about 7 goin out to 4 with decent speed, at first it seemed very "forced" to come back, but still hit the pocket. after the first 5 frames, i decided to move in a bit, by then i was hittin about 13 breakin about 7. then in the last 5 frames of the last game, i was deep, about 17 at the arrows and breaking about 10.

all 3 lines i had 7-10 splits... sigh

-----------------------------------------------

i went back today to the alley, played about 14 games and paid about 100 dollars cuz of losing pot games. very expensive in my opinion, but i learned something that i think its priceless.

first achievement: i shot my new high score, 289, weak 10 in the 11th. was using agent on right and angular one on left. the weak 10 came from the agent on a poor shot, yea thats right, i thru that shot like garbage

second achievement: i can finally play on dry lanes, i finally achieved the type of roll that i like. end over end with decent amounts of rotation (like Mr Barnes) i still have to polish the release but i dont see myself struggling anymore on dry conditions.

sry for the wall
