Cleaning Them Shoes
« on: August 14, 2006, 11:11:37 AM »
Hello all.  I went bowling today at this terrible place.  The floor were dirty and there was even dried up soda spills where you sit at the lane.

Well anyhoo.  I have these Dexter bowling shoes and they got pretty dirty.  The sliding part is made out of a fuzzy sort of material, not leather.  I don't know much about bowling shoes, so I hope thats enough info.

I was wondering if anyone had tips on how to clean these babies.  I also had a spot or two on the material from a soda spill from a few days ago.  I bowled a 183 average on 6 games that night.  I even hit my personal best - a 192 (before that my personal best was a 191, haha.)  Sorry, I was just excited because I haven't really bowled since I graduated High School 3 years ago.

Sorry for veering off topic .  I know there's a certain type of brush people use to clean the material part of their bowling shoes, but is there another way to clean they (like... soap and water?) or would that risk ruining the material?

Thanks in advance!
Rich

I've used Rubbing Alcohol along with that brush, and all's turned out fine.

Not sure if it would ruin the matierial, but it hasn't ruined mine yet, and I've cleaned them that way for years now.

I've also used rubbing alcohol after getting into a spilled drink in the bar.  Just get a towel damp with some and rub it on the slide pad.  Keep doing that until the sticky crap is gone.

I've bought new shoes since that happened to me, never did get the dirt off with a scuff brush. I've not been since. Shame too, it's a 62 lane AMF. Cool atmosphere. Bone dry lanes though. Same exact lane surface as my house, opposite back ends (ours flood), and poor approach maintenance.
