Am just wondering how many times you can re-con a ball before it becomes to small to be used in tournament ? Thanks !

Depends on how tracked up the ball is and how much you have to take the ball down to resurface.

You can do it till the logo's and serial numbers start to disappear. At least 3 or 4 heavy resurfacing.

I would think you could get 7 or 8 light resurfacings in.

  2. Diameter          8.5000"       8.595”
               

here are the specs.. There is a template they use to check the ball. It has two holes. One is should go through (27.002") and one it shouldn''t (26.704").

FWIW - I think the above are merely manufacturing specifications... If there isn't a visible serial number present you can engrave your own.

I only worry about a ball being bigger than the specs call for and too small to return consistently through the ball return system.

I checked the pdf and yes it does say "at time of manufacture" .. so I wonder if they translate to league or tournaments..


At time of manufacture, all balls must meet the following
technical specifications when tested at room temperature
(68-78 degrees F)

so as long as the ball is approved and has all the other identifying marks to be legal then you can use it regardless of size.

from USBC...

"Physical Specifications" on page I-2 of the Equipment Specifications Manual, are manufacturing specifications. Meaning that all the bowling balls when submitted at the time of approval must meet those specifications. Specifications are on the initial manufactured ball and there is not a rule or specification on the size of the bowling ball during league or tournament play.
