FIBJAM "Synthetic Powder"
« on: November 10, 2013, 12:39:14 AM »
Bowled a tournament today, the house was not a normal one for me.  Full synthetic house.  They applied a "synthetic powder" to the approaches with a dust mop, and the powder was essentially easy slide.  I have never heard of this before, and it made the day very terrible.  Finished the day 212 under avg for 4 games, couldn't get a consistent slide, thus a very inconsistent day.  I'm not going to be able to really learn from this, other than it's a $40 lesson to not play there much, if any.

I have never heard of a house applying a synthetic powder to the synthetic approaches, and I've bowled in many different synthetic houses.   Anyone else ever run into this?

Never heard of it.  Sounds dangerous, and they should probably have everyone sign a waiver to release them of liability...

I took my 10 pad off m Dexter, and used a 6.  I was sticking some, but more like a stick-slide.  My 10 was like trying to bowl walkin on marbles, or an ice rink

I've heard of houses that have notoriously sticky approaches would sprinkle fine sawdust down on the sliding area to aid the bowlers.

The wood cellulose breaks up easy, doesn't get into the pores of the synthetic panels, and sweeps up easy.

However, a small amount is certain to find it's way onto the heads of the lane.... not sure how they compensated for that.

I've had two similar experiences!

Once bowled with a teammate who covered his hands with easy slide.  Somehow a lot always ended up on my side of the slide.  Never stable, never bowled great the whole season.  Reload.  If I see him I try to bowl on another pair!

Last season bowled with a 140 no thumb bowler who spilled sprite all over a chair and then put his push off foot in it while he flirted with a couple of girls.  By the time we discovered it, it was all over his shoe and the lanes in warm up.

It got worse and stickier as we went, especially in the left hand slide area....Thanks.   He shot 595!  Best push off he ever had.  Some of the best sandbagging and lane management ever!

I stuck every ball and then stuck more in the 3rd game.  If I see him I look out immediately for soda down on a lane chair!

you expect that from a birthday party or open bowling - not a teammate.

I was really actually tempted to try and get on a team at this house in the next year or two, it's only 25-30 miles away.  Bowled moonlight no tap there last weekend, had no issues, had a nice line, would be a nice compliment to the wood house I play in now.  After the tournament and finding out the powder is a standard practice, no way that's on the table anytime soon.

We had our house resurface the approaches and woah what fun that was.  I had to change my shoes to something that I could just plant with.  I had to bowl like this for 3-4 weeks.  I knew I needed to make a change when i fell on arse twice, though I did strike on both
