Jack,
I bowl in the Amateur Bowlers Tour, which allows re-entry.  The highest of the scores is the one used in determining whether or not a bowler makes the cut.

I echo your thoughts Bones.
I have never liked the re-entry rule for the very reason that you stated. It's all about who has more money, when it should be about the skill of the bowler being able read the lanes and make adjustments.

I also agree with Bones on this one.  You should only have one chance.  That being said, I have taken advantage of a re-entry to make some extra $$$

its as close to getting a do-over as there is in our sport.  for someone who has the extra 20 or 30 bucks, they get to "practice" a set on the actual tourney condition, and then either bowl the immediate squad thereafter or the next week on the same fresh shot.  of course its about the money, but i would be a lose some of my pride if i won a tourney after entering it 5 or 6 times.

I don't have a problem with someone paying to practice on the tournament conditions, but hopefully that means the center laying out the shot before the tournament so the locals can throw on it if they want.  But practice means trying a few balls on a few different lines to see what's working.  Sweepers can be "cheap" practice on the tournament shot.  If you give it your best under scoring conditions, and you don't make it, tough luck.  Those with deep pockets shouldn't get another chance, in my opinion.

strider,

if you mentioned practicing because of what i said, i just want to make clear that i have no problem with practicing either, so be it as its not in a tournament squad.  if its done prior to the tourney beginning, and done during open play, then i say practice all you want.  i just dont believe in "practicing" by actually bowling in the tourney to see what the shot is like and then going back again that afternoon to shoot 750 when your first squad 550 should really have counted.

I used to bowl ABT and it really sucked especially when you see some of these bowlers who just fork out the money to re-enter again and again. And these are normally the ones who cash week end and week out. New rules should be in place to stop the re-entry. Maybe if enough is said and done then maybe things can change. I know that it would be hard to change especially that whoever runs the tournament would be losing out. But it would be better for the game.
