Title: re-racking at leagues
Post by: xrayjay on March 17, 2016, 01:58:10 PM
There's a certain lane at leagues that just racks too close often. The three pin on this lane is close to the head pin. I notice this bad rack, and other bad racks over the last two seasons and just bowl. I'm too "shy" to re-rack.

One pair the 6 pin is off often as well and I still shoot at it....

Anyway, my frustration last week was leaving a lot of 10 pins on the left lane. I wanted to re-rack the pins but didn't want to slow down play. or make ppl think I'm being too OCD.

Do you re-rack at leagues or don't care about how the rack looks and just bowl.

I have at one house a few times in the past. They have corrected the problem now, but a couple years ago, there were two lanes where the head pin would sometimes be off by more than an inch. You could see about half of the five pin behind it from straight on.

If I notice a pin that's significantly offset I will re-rack without a second thought. But if it's something constant on one lane I usually won't bother since it's more than likely it will happen again.

But it's usually a fairly easy fix so if you let the front desk or mechanic(s) know then it should be taken care of before the next time you bowl on those lanes again. Doesn't help matters that night though.

I rerack, and even some times ask for the spot to be fixed if it's bad enough (IF the rest of the people on the pair agree).  Gotta rerack it.

YOu know a pin can be up to a 1/4" off center and still be on spot.

I don't believe I have ever reracked unless a pin was missing.

However I would if the pin was significantly off spot. But minor variations during league play I don't pay attention to it.

If the pins look offset to me, I will re rack them, league, tourney whatever. If it doesn't look right, re-rack for sure!

I heard Norm Duke say once on xtra frame
If the pins are offset and the pocket is open, always throw at those
If its offset and the pocket is more closed, always re rack those

If a rack is off enough to be visible it is off by way more than 1/4 inch.  I will always re rack if there is a decent chance of getting a better rack.

Not true. If the pin in front is off 1/4" to the left and then other pin is 1/4" of to the right you know have 1/2" of a gap. Still could be within spec allowed.

Which takes longer.

Re-rack, then throw 1 ball for a strike.

Or don't re-rack, and throw 2 balls for a spare.

I am going to guess re-rack.  You have to re-rack to the 2nd ball then re-rack again to clear the pins off the deck and get a new rack to try for your strike.
