Bowling Myths....
« on: February 23, 2011, 01:29:40 AM »
The purpose of this thread is 2 list all the bowling myths....

List your bowling myths...

1st myth -- You aren't guaranteed to shot a 300 with new ball your purchase reguardless of how much you paid or even like the ball...  The more you pay for a ball doesnt increase your odds...

2nd - There is no such thing as a ten pin house reguardless -- You hit 10 you get 10

Urethane balls are a fad and are useless in today's bowling environment.

I use whatever ball works for me.

Some people are going to be mad but this is true.  There is no such thing is heavy oil ball..  Friction is what turns your ball...

My folks owned a bowling alley, and I worked in another one during college, so I know other alley owners and possibly pro-shop operators will agree with this popular bowling myth:

"All the owners do is bowl all the time and rake the money in!"

I have actually seen people do this. They will have a bad first game then, their second and third are good.

About myth number 2, there are definitely centers where carry is worse than others.  Sidewalls, pin age, off spot racks, and how level the building is all effect carry.

Good point. For example, if the flat gutters by the pindeck are deeper than average, they do a really good job of keeping the 6 pin from coming up and kicking the 10 on less-than-perfect hits, and prevent other pins from mixing around and taking it out. Yes, you can still strike a lot, but I guarantee your carry percentage will be lower in a house with deep gutters than in a house where the pins can bounce out of the gutters more easily. The other factors you listed are all very valid as well.
