As a follow up to my post about bowling in the past and what you miss, how about things that you would like to see introduced or brought back into bowling to make it more enjoyable/fun/exciting or whatever.
I would have got away with it if it was not for those pesky kids (Behind my lane) and those blasted 10 pins.

Bones,

My wife has tried to start 2 different scratch leagues at her center down here in the "supposedly" great bowling city of San Antonio. 1st one was a singles format that really didn't take off, the 2nd one was a summer scratch trios league in which we had a respectable 10 teams. The funny thing about the trios is that it was advertised for months and not one of the "hot shot" bowlers that are always whining and crying about handicap showed up.

Enjoy the high scoring days while you can.  The days of the the THS "wall" are numbered.  The USBC is slowly trying to eliminate the "adult bumper bowling" leagues with zero out of bounds and a ton of hold area.  They won't be sport leagues, by any means.  However, you'll find oil volume increased from second arrow out and longer oiling patterns to be more common.  This will place a premium on lane maintenance and equipment(oiling machines) to be up to date.  In other words, it will be a challenge for those who've got the talent and level the playing field for bolwers everywhere.  The better bowlers will still score well.  You just won't see the huge recovery room and hold areas that a lot of THS have at the present time.

Sawbones, I'm not gonna namedrop, but let's just say that there are efforts taking place to level the playing field with the integrity of the sport AND the proprietor in mind.  The idea is to try to create a scoring environment that's fair for both bowler and owner.  The three unit rule, on it's way out.  It may not be this year, next year, or 2007, but, it's coming.  The BPAA will be muscled by the USBC with this proposal.  The USBC simply won't approve ANY honor scores unless certain criteria are met by the proprietors.  How happy will the typical league bowler be if they throw an honor score only to find out that the house they bowl in has been blackballed by the USBC or the house simply doesn't care and has chosen to put out whatever shot they want?  This topic is in it's infant stages.  However, the light at the end of the tunnel is comin', and it's a big ol' train!
