Reacting to a strike, Part 2
« on: September 08, 2016, 09:02:30 AM »
In regard to the question below, about your MO after a strike, why do most people have such a strong reaction?

Please no one be insulted, I know that nearly everyone does something, but, especially for the people who get a lot of strikes, doesn't anyone subscribe to the policy of "act like you've been there before?"

I can understand a 140 average bowler, who may get 2-3 strikes a night, having a genuine exciting moment after a strike, but for those who get 10-20 a night, wouldn't it be more appropriate to just go and sit down?

I'm not talking about the 11th or 12th strike in a 300, or an 800, or even when you strike to clinch your point or the team game or whatever.  I just mean, on a normal strike.  I mean, isn't that the point, to knock them all over, if possible?

I understand, people are drinking and having a good time and I don't want to discourage anyone from enjoying bowling, too many people are quitting as it is.

I just find it impossible to celebrate every strike.  I guess I am just low-key, compared to the average bowler.

None of my strikes are normal lol.  Teammates and players on the other team react more than me though.  I remember one strike this week where I think the head pin bounced off the left wall, then hit the right wall, and then took out the 8 pin as it rolled back to the left wall again.  I don't know what it is whether its the revs, ball speed, or weight.  I'm kind of suspicious that many bowlers these days use lighter balls.  We all hit the pocket but for some reason, my strikes decimate the pins and knock the pins in the air.  I guess it's comparable to when a casual bowler rolls it as fast as they can straight down the lane.  Combine that with above average rev rate and hook and that is my ball reaction.

Back to topic, I just do a Tiger Woods fist or walk back to my seat with my head down lol.

I just walk back to seating area if it's not a crucial(to the game outcome) strike.

However, when I successfully convert a ten pen, I take a Micheal Jackson style moon walk across a couple of lanes before finishing with a Heisman trophy pose.   ;D

Sometimes those pesky 10 pins can get in your head, so when you finally conquer one it's as satisfying as any strike...  Been there, done that (unfortunately).

I'm pretty mellow 90% of the time regarding the reaction to strikes.  The other night I reacted to the other team when I carried an "explosive" Brooklyn.  They rolled their eyes...   And I said "get used to it!  I carry EVERYTHING!!"

I stopped following the original thread at the beginning so I didn't know there was a lot of strong reactions.

I will say my post in that thread was in jest.  I might give a fist pump at key moments, but mostly I don't do anything.  In fact, the most reaction I give is when I get a strike I feel I don't deserve.  At those times I am apologizing profusely to the other team.  I hate losing to so-called "lucky strikes".
