shooting high games with crappy balls
« on: February 15, 2009, 02:07:58 AM »
yesterday, im shooting high 180s and 190s in my first two games with a black widow bite and roto grip cell pearl and nothing would work. So in response, i pull out my 12 year old columbia300 boss pearl and i hook the lane and shoot 270. Sorta weird but im happy about it. I guess it goes to show that you dont need the best balls out there and the newest stuff to be successful. Anyone else out there have a similar game or still use very old bowling balls and still be successful?
Better Lucky than good.

A few years back, the lane machine fouled up and put out very little oil. After shooting two very low games ( 150-170 ish ), I pulled out a friends plastic A.M.F. BOOGIE.

9/XXXXXXXXXXX=290

Just last Thursday I shot 186 the first game with resin, then shot 257 and 238 with my 21yr old black urethane hammer.

I regularly use a Fire Storm - came out in 1995.
And I carry a 25 year old black hammer - at least, always in the tournament bag.

My only sanctioned 300 and high series of 778 came with a FABall Hammer 3D High-rev on hand striped lanes.

I have been bowling most of this year with my Violet 3D Offset from Hammer.
My last three series with it are:

I shot a 300 in October with an original Danger Zone.

I was given an old Danger Zone which has about 300 games on it. Have shot 288 and a couple of 278s with it this season.

One of my "hottest" candidates in the bag is my Revolution Renegade, a ball that hit the market in 2000 and which I got NIB 2 years ago. It holds my personal high game of 278 (together with an NS²) and it is a great performer on medium to medium-dry conditions.
Additionally, I love the confused faces in league or in tournaments when I toss this old pill, because noone seems to know the brand or ball anymore, and when I keep scoring when more modern stuff tends to burn up, it is just fun to watch the envious glances...

Couple years ago I was struggling all through practice with everything hooking so much...

The lights came on, I figured I'd try one more thing before going to the Target Zone, ended up still going high and opening.

Switched to the Target Zone and threw the next 17 lol.. last 11 for 279, front 6 before leaving a 10 pin!
