Reactive bowls with no flare
« on: January 16, 2008, 06:48:44 PM »
Hi all,
I am an older bowler who has trouble controlling the new equipment. I can hit the pocket all day long with my columbia blue dot but with not much carry. what kind of reactive ball would you recommend and the drilling layout. So that the ball hooks becuase of  me and not the core. I am a left hander with speed ranging from 10 to 11 and I have no problems making a ball hook. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Anything drilled pin in track or pin on axis if you want no flare, although you wouldn't get that much extra hitting power with this type of drilling. It's ideal for taming short or dry lanes where you want a smooth arc, but the "hit" you get from reactives is fueled by the strong movement off the breakpoint...

Do you play the Blue Dot with fingertip? If so, some low flare balls or a urethane without a core might be step up.

If you want some more traction than the BD, I can recommend Brusnwick's Urethane Groove. It is a simple ball with a pancake, just like the BD. The coverstock has some traction to offer and is easy to adjust - it might offer the extra punch you are looking for.

Other balls that come to my mind (but which are stronger options) are Visionary's Slate Blue Gargoyle (a pearl urethane with a core, recently discontinued but maybe still on sale, not for oily shots) or the Blue/Green Centaur (a reactive with a very low flaring core) - the latter would be a good choice if you want some traction and roll, and it will be stronger than the Groove.

Get a Grren/Blue Centaur, and have it drilled with a 1:30 drilling.
If someone cant control this ball, they can't control anything.
