Reactive Skid Flip Suggestions
« on: March 18, 2004, 02:45:32 AM »
Looking for suggestions for a ball to replace an Aftershock. The Aftershock was drilled with the pin above the bridge the CG moved for about 3/4 positive side. The ball provides a strong finish on medium/medium heavy conditions.  However, the surface is showing wear and tear so it is time to be replaced.  As I recall the Aftershock was medium RG and high differential.

Looking for something that would produce the same reaction. Something that would finish strong and not quit.  I think reactives wear longer, so I am not interested in particle balls.

xo -- Find a pro shop with a Haus refinishing machine and have the ball refinished to NIB conditions.  And save yourself about $200.  --  JohnP

Which Aftershock, solid or pearl?

The after shock was very high flaring, if I remember, but I'm not sure you can even get the core specs.  Best bet is to pick on a medium rg, high differential solid reactive that looks apealing to you, and lay it out similar to the old after shock.  Look at Columbia or Track stuff, as they might come closest.

That's the problem I am having. It is tough finding reactive, medium rg, and high differential (close to .6). The high differential balls have the tendency to be particle.  It would also be nice if the people who use the ball and provided a review would say it skid flip instead of arc or strong arc.

The Element (2.54, 0.058) is close to the specs you listed, but I certainly wouldn't call it skid flip.  The Silver Streak Solid might not have those specs, but it is pretty flippy and can handle medium + oil.

The Silver Streaks move, but I would not call them a real skid flip type ball.  I could see the X Factor/Duce being a possible ball.  A local guy has an AZO Fantasy X with the spec of RG 2.769 DRG .062.  That looks like a real flippy ball.

Any other suggestion?

silver streak pearl, visionary G-3 or green gargoyle, and the hammer vicious pearl are about the best skid/flip balls for the money.

I've thrown Silver Streak side by side with someone (similar style) throwing a Duece.  Silver Streak is much flippier.  I might be wrong, but I thought you were looking for a solid?  You can't compare the SS solid to the original X-Factor.  The SS Pearl is just about as flippy as you're going to find and will handle medium oil, but again, I thought you were looking for a solid.  Another pearl, but the Vicious Twister mentioned is another good one.

I'll put in a vote for the Silver Streak Pearl, too. As long as there's dry in the backend, this ball's gonna flip, especially if you put a flippy drill on it.
If you don't want quite that much length, maybe try an XXX Factor, it definitely moves on the backend, I've drilled a few of them, and they all move hard off the break.

Anyone have an opinion on the Savage Flip.  It may fit the bill I am looking for.  The only thing is that it has a pearl cover.

My Revmaster is the most skid/flip ball I've ever owned and I've owned a lot of balls.  I had to keep drilling the weight hole bigger to tame it down.  I think I finally found it!

Two balls I wouldn't normally suggest, but given what you are looking for:  if you can find a Pearl Warlock DC, get it.  Superflip.  A ball that has a pearl coverstock and very high RG is the Killer Instinct.  Very flippy if you have some speed.  But surprisingly for me, the ball you might try is the Savage Flip, the first Ebonite ball I have seen I would have actually called flippy before I saw the Killer Pearl.  Mediumish RG, high differential and it will flip.

What do I use for PURE flip?  Vendetta or Thing Returns, drilled strong, a scuffed and lightly polished Voodoo (incredibly flippy with the coverstock). I also have just acquired a Killer Pearl, which is very flippy if thrown with speed.
