Reading a Bowlers P.A.P.
« on: November 05, 2006, 11:33:15 AM »
One of the most common questions we hear on this website is "What is my P.A.P." and "How do I find my P.A.P." but once that measurement is made and charted out, what can you tell about a person as a bowler from knowing their P.A.P.? Do crankers, tweeners, strokers, fluffers, full rollers, and spinners all have their general P.A.P.'s and what about those of us that don't fit into those molds?
We use our P.A.P. to lay out our ball drillings but what is the ideal P.A.P.?

From what I have concluded, my P.A.P. is rather odd. Measured at 6" right, and 1/2" up (somedays 1/2" down depending on release) I find it hard to choose layouts due to an extreme P.A.P.
So, if you have the answers to the previous questions, what can you tell about me as a bowler from my P.A.P.?

Technically, nothing.  People can make assumptions that may be correct, but nothing would be 100%.  For example, I currently have a PAP coordinate that is down.  People would say "Oh well you're a cranker because it's down" but I'm a borderline tweener, nevermind cranker.  PAP doesn't really mean much if you don't know things like track diameter and whatnot.  Just look at Fagan, his PAP screams "Spinner" but he has normal tilt.

Now that you say that, I do remember an article saying that Fagan has a PAP of 3 1/2" over.

Your PAP doesn't tell anything about you as a bowler, but it's absolutely necessary for a driller to lay a ball out to get the reaction you want.  --  JohnP
