Reading the lanes
« on: March 10, 2015, 10:23:54 AM »
Ok, here is what happened yesterday during league. Where I bowl usually is the THS, 40 feet but usually is slickest as other THS I have bowled before. So I always start with something strong, like my Paranormal Aura at 1200, usually starting at 20 and throwing to 6 to 7 board and I can bowl at least two games with it without adjusting. (I am a lefty)

But yesterday I decided to left the Paranormal at home and try my new Motiv equipment. (Covert Revolt, Forza and Venom Shock) I started practice with the Forza and the ball is STRONG! I was throwing to the 6 to 8 board and I never hit the pocket. I had to move way inside in order to have a decent shot so I decided to put the ball back in the bag. I started the game with the Revolt at 3000 and throwing to the 7 board and the ball was smooth, almost straight and at the end it was just hooking a little bit, making a small move to the pocket, so sometimes I was light and sometimes I was getting strikes. I finished with 200 and I decided to change for the Shock. The shock (at 3000 too) reacted better, used the same board and I saw more hook and more backend reaction using the same board and finished with 212. By the last game I decided to give it a try again with the Revolt and it was the same, so when I tried to make it hook more I went to the 5 board and oh man! The ball hooks too much, going directly through the nose and sometimes hitting the pocket, so it was so over/under for me, leaving washouts and splits. I went back to the Shock and somehow I saved that horrible game with a 188.

So, how should I read what happened yesterday? Why the Revolt wasn't hooking as much on the fresh and why the Forza was hooking too much on the fresh? Does that means that the lanes were kind of dry since the beginning? Because every time I was swinging the ball and going outside 6 the Revolt was coming back to the pocket so strong, sometimes going through the headpin! but inside 6 to 8 the ball was hooking just a little bit... I am trying to learn the lanes conditions in order to know what to do, when to adjust, when to change balls, etc... Should I add surface to the Revolt? Polish the Forza? move? Any help would be truly appreciated! I am so confused!  :-\
