Ready for a move....*UPDATE*
« on: November 07, 2004, 11:43:41 PM »
*UPDATE*  I chose the Spokane, Washington area, if all goes well, I should be there at the beginning of summer.  I appreciate all the input for you guys.  I am looking forward to a new start and fresh beginnings.

Thanks again,
Andrew

Little Rock- Too much crime
Spokane- RAIN!!!
Odgen- Nothing there
California- Too expensive to live

My choice:
South Carolina- Great scenery, close to florida (except for the hurricanes lately), lots to do and see.

I'd second SC.  I spent my honeymoon down there, and the people are very nice, weather is good if you like heat, and you're by the coast if you like water.
There is always the threat of hurricane, but just about anywhere is a natural disaster hazard.

Arkansas - Tornadoes/Storms
Washington/California - Earthquakes
Utah - Mormons (heh)  There is no one else to report if a disaster occurs in Utah

I don't know how taxes figure in your decision, but Washington has no state income tax. They do have sales tax.

California has both, as well as extremely expensive housing.

Spokane is not known for rain. It is, however, known for snow.

I don't know anything about the other locations.

Spokane = minimal rain, don't remember the last time I felt a quake (I'm 75 miles SE), can be lots of snow.  Needs more bowlers.

St. Helens may do someting, but no one expects it to be like '80.  Spokane got a small dose then; I don't expect much if it blows now.  Volcanoes are the least of my worries, unless one of the big ones goes (say Rainier) - then we could be under 20 feet of lava.

Snow and cold doesn't bother me, I've been living in ND too long.

The Sacramento area is actually quite reasonable.  Summers can get kinda hot, though...

Towards the coast, yes.  Not nearly as much inland.

And if this means anything, there are quite a few really good scratch leagues in the Sac area (including the world-famous Steve Cook league), and no shortage of tournaments.  Also, the Bay Area and Reno are only a few hours away.

I've never been to Spokane, so I can't speak on that one.

But I LOVE UTAH!  If I could actually make a living up there doing what I do for a living (Title Insurance), I would live there in a heartbeat.  I have family in Moab, so I visit often (not as often as I would like) and I think it is the greatest place on Earth.  I will most likely retire up there as long as I have a little money saved up.  About Ogden specifically, my dad lived there for a little while and said it is nice.  My vote definitely goes to Utah.  Ogden is only 35 miles from Salt Lake City, so you are close enough to the big city, yet definitely far enough away.  Let us know what you decide!

On edit:  Check out http://www.ogdencity.com if you haven't already.
