Real core vs. Generic lightweight core, + ball recommendation
« on: February 23, 2010, 03:26:14 PM »
What is the typical weight at which high performance cores transition to a generic lightweight core? Is it 12 or 13 lbs. for most manufacturers? (I realize it changes from line to line, and company to company, but is there a general rule of thumb to go by?)

I have a friend looking for a moderate performance ball in 13 lbs. with a higher Rg (2.55-2.60). She would like a higher performance core rather than the generic lightweight core.

Suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

YOu really cannot make a generic statement. Too much depends on the individual manufacturer. Most end their dynamic cores at 14 lbs. A few take them up/down to 12 lbs. Many will show the shape and give the RGs and Differentials on their websites. Look there first. It's safest to take each ball desired on a individual basis.

As a youth coach, I get this question fairly often. Here a few that I know off the top of my head. (This is in no way a comprehensive list)

Morich all balls
Hammer Vibe line
Brunswick, Avalanche line
Roto Grip Planet line.
