Feel like quiting
« on: October 05, 2017, 06:49:56 PM »
Do you ever feel like quitting ? Becoming very frustrated. 10 years ago I was averaging 20_ in 2 leagues in 2 houses. Seems like every year I'm going down. Biggest problem seems to be getting the ball to move. Never threw a BIG hook but at least my ball would finish. I use high end Radical + DV8 stuff and keep them well maintained. Think its time for some coaching. Looking for someone around southwest suburbs of Chicago.

I realize Vernon Hills isn't exactly the sw suburbs, but Bill Spigner is the guy to see.

Dumb question probably, but are you sure that the conditions you are seeing match up to the strong (I am assuming since you said high end) bowling balls you are using?

Spigner, or Mike Nape at Fox in Wheaton. Mike is my go to guy when I need to get sorted out. Gregg Zicha teaches there too.

Also, I know that the south side isn't known for their massive amounts of oil. What house are you having an issue at? Do weaker balls do anything?

Most of my balls are solids. I have tried higher and lower grit finishes. Took one and polished it up and had no luck at all. Pretty sure it's my release. Seemed like when I was averaging 200-209 the outsides were always dry and my ball would come back. Figure it's time to get some professional help. I know I'm getting older but not being a power player and I never have been a power player it shouldnt make much difference. Bowl at Orland and Tinley . At least the golf game is getting better.

The coaching names haves already been mentioned so I will leave that alone. Knowing how Orland and Tinley are, you could very well have something that is too smooth in your hands. I'm sure those guys will be able to help you.

You probably just need some American made bowling balls.
Balls: Motiv Trident Abyss, Motiv Golden Jackal, Motiv Hydra and Motiv Hyper Sniper. All made in the USA.

IDK if this applies to you but I had a lot of trouble matching up with strong core balls and the results were balls rolling flat or hooking with poor carry. MoRich balls were way too strong for me when I tried them and I found the only way I matched up with my freak show was 5000 grit and high polish for a medium flat pattern.
for me it's hard finding a strong ball I like and the light oil stuff is more a medium oil ball for me.
The harder I try the harder they fall

No bounce/free friction means moving your feet further outside and playing more direct on a THS.  I am sure you have but I will ask anyway, have you tried this?

Yep , am currently trying to either be more square at the foul line or throwing in a little.More practice is needed.

Mr. Spigner got me out of a 5 year "slump" by spotting something that had been missed by numerous top level coaches.  He's well worth the drive (about 90 miles for me).

Will have to consider him, thanks. Practiced today. Concentrated on keeping the index finger straight down and pressing against the ball. Also worked on not coming up and out of my slide trying to put to much lift on the ball. I have a Ruckus Feud that I have polished up. It didn't cover as many boards as the solids but it did finish strong coming from the outside.
