i now use a pro release wrist support. Any suggestions for another support or for anything that would keep my wrist firm?

The best things i have found for the wrist are for the whole hand also.  Im using a grip strengthener as well as squeeze balls & stress balls.  Basically anything i can squeeze and keep my hand moving with, i use(no nasty comments...lol).

I have felt a HUGE difference in my wrist since using any & all types of hand strengtheners.

Hope this helps.

Depends on the cause of his "weak" wrist.

I was going to suggest wrist curls, but then thought the cause could be genetic, or an accident or nerve/disease damage, where exercise might never help.

Do you use the strip that binds the palm to the back support? I also used to use a ProRelease for 2 years now, due to an injury and as a preventive measurement.

Anyway, I never liked a wrist support, and with the device fully strapped onto the arm I always felt like a passenger, not a player.

To keep my hand flexible, I left away the palm strip - which had been a very good compromise. The back support would help when I hold and swing the ball, distributing its weight, but the now free hand would allow me to cup and "snap" the hand upon the release.

2 weeks ago I decided to leave away the Pro Release, in order to try how well I'd fare - and I was astonished how strong my wrist had become in the meantime (with some additional grip strengthener and wrist curl training). I did not feel a difference to the release with the wrist support, I even think that with my free hand I put more revs on the ball than before, the balls fit better (did some tape experiments, though) and I simply have more release options that I can perform steadily, due to the much enforced wrist.

So, my advice, leave away the palm strip for some weeks, use your wrist, and do some training. Wonders do not happen over night, but getting rid of a wrist support is really a goal you should try to achieve.

Good luck!

I used to use a Robby Revs wrist support but found it to be too restricting once I figured out how to throw a hook.  I switched to this support made by Columbia about six months ago and really like it:

It has a metal support in the back that is removable.  I prefer using the brace without the metal support...gives me just a little support around the wrist to keep it from breaking too much before my release.
