The red, white and blue oil patterns became available in Spring 2010. My house received the pattern three weeks ago and yesterday was my third time bowling on the blue oil pattern. The pattern blue pattern is harder than your THS by far. It is actually one step below the sport pattern, when it comes to the ratio of oil on the lane. The sport oil pattern ratio is 3:1 and blue oil pattern is 4:1. When looking at the oil on the lane from a 2d view it's more flat on the lane, meaning there is no dry broads on the outside and heavy oil in the middle. I can testify for a fact, when you are bowling on the blue oil pattern you have to be more accurate with your shot. Unlike your THS your able to pull the ball inside of your target and the heavy oil in the middle part of the lane will hold your shot into the pocket, and if you miss your target to the outside, the dry part of the lane will bring it back. You will not have that luxury on the blue pattern. Another thing hitting the pocket is not good enough on the blue pattern, trust me. Your ball entry angle cannot be too sharp and high, and your shot will have to be more direct as in finding the straightest angle possible.
Another thing I learned from my house when talking to the mechanic, he said there are also type numbers that go along with the new oil patterns and they go from (Type I - Type III). <~~~ewwww!
Now from what I read offline:
The red oil pattern it is the closest thing your going to find remotely close to your THS, but it is suppose to be a little bit more tougher. The white oil pattern is suppose to be a step up from that and the blue is the hardest of them all.
All of these patterns were designed to make your average that you carry on the league, or going into tournaments more honorable than a THS that you, or anyone else could've of been bowling on for god who knows how long.
