regarding hand positions
« on: November 27, 2009, 04:27:19 AM »
Today at bowlng the lanes were freshly dressed and the temp was on the rather COLD side.  This house normaly has enough ol to throw the VG(game 1)then VE for 2 and 3.  Today was a different story the VE duri shadow balls was lie a rocet off the BP. I switched to the Freeze and it was a step down but with my normal hand position (under ball thumb at 12-1 o-clock and comming up the back for delivery) ws still crossing over for a brooklyn strikes (50% of game 1 went brooklyn). Game 2 & 3 i move my hand so m thumb was at 10-11 o-clock and threw the same line as game 1 and it held pocket (3rd gm was getting stone 9's)

I thought with comming up the back would get the ball farther down the lane vs. the other.  Or is the other hand position getting it down farther due to the increased side rotation?

Also any ideas on how to combat stone 9's the ball is a Freeze oob condition (have 10 games on it) This ball is a real surprise it maybe an entry level price but not in reaction.

If I am not mistaken coming up the back of the ball gets it into a roll earlier, coming around the ball gives length with increased backend reaction.
The increase in backend comes from having a fresh track line from the ball flaring over new area with the side rotation.

The Freeze is NOT a weak ball by any means.

As to your hand positions.....I struggle with instances like you describe, all the time. My first inclination is to come up the back of the ball, in order to decrease my backend reaction.

Spinning the ball will definitely get it longer, but your backend will be wayy too much.....thus the 9 pins, because your entry angle is so severe.

I would tend to stay with up-the-back, and move in with my feet, but that's just me.

The other option would be to scuff and dull one of the pieces you're using, to slow the backend movement of the ball. Just my 2 cents.
