Well guys, I'll be attending my first regional Oct 2-4 in Ft Smith, Ar. Its on the Viper in a house with ProAnvil i believe. Any advice, whether on the pattern, equipment, or just anything in general would be appreciated greatly!

P.S. Im a cranker with 375 revs and 19- 20 mph ball speed but i am very versatile with adjustments.

All advice appreciated

Thanks, Ethan

We are in semi-similar boats good sir.  I just did my first regional a few weeks ago, and the numero uno piece of advice I can give you is have fun.  Bowl, enjoy the challenge, and make the most of your time bowling.  Keeping a level head will help you play your game easier and with less doubts.

Now, onto the good stuff.  Bring EVERY piece of gear, you'll never know what you'll need.  Don't hesitate on adjustments, trust yourself and go at it.  The ball will tell you everything you'll need to know about the conditions.  I found that the practice session was very helpful, and gave me a good idea of what to expect on Saturday.  Saturday played a bit tighter, but I knew where to start from AND how and how quickly the lanes will break down (carry down first, then they opened up, then had to move in, etc etc).

The courtesy in the tournament is very very awesome - it took me a bit to get used to, but once I got it I was all about it.  Don't let it get into your head that it's worlds different, because it's not at all, it's just a LOT smoother than what you're used to in league.

The usuals there were more than willing to help me out with things I didn't quite understand (writing down what gear you used, etc) and they made me feel rather comfortable.  After all, it's just bowling, ya know?

Make sure your equipment is all legal (static weights, etc.) and that if you use a bionic wrist that it's allowed in PBA competition.  I had to get a new bionic wrist because the one I had was NOT allowed in PBA tournaments.

And again, just have fun man.  I hope you have a blast and bowl well!

go in with realistic expectations these guys are trying to make a living out there. watch and learn the lane rules. make sure all balls are legal and your gear is approved. as far as equipment with out knowing you preferance in brand i would say go with a strong solid with weak drillin, a med pearl with strong drilling, med hybrid with rolly drilling, strong and weak lighter oil ball and your biggest thing a spare ball
heres my arsenal when i bowl on the viper(well last seasons)
deminsion pin over
gravity shift 5x4
hyroad pin out
street tod solid pin over
street rod pearl negative pin
ice storm

i've bowled this pattern 2 times shot -47, and +63 cashing once and missing cut both times

The new Viper is all about hook, hook, HOOK, with little/no tug. Work on making good shots and making your spares with a plastic ball.

Pretty sure it is the same bowl I have been to.  Don't remember the Pro Anvil Lane, but I do remember the approaches being slick.  Seemed like no humidity, almost gritty surface.  Changed to the waffle heel and good to go.  Nice bowl though, very big.

I bowled on the new Cheetah, went +84 and cashed, but missed the cut.  Cut was like, +200 or something rather astronomical, lol.

Another thing to keep in mind: every single pin matters.  If you leave a split, get the wood.  You never know when you'll need those pins at the end of the day, ya know?
