Regional on guardian this weekend
« on: February 12, 2009, 09:18:33 AM »
Topic says it all.  We are bowling on the chameleon pattern and I've never bowled on guarding before.  I've bowled on beat up wood but never guardian.  Anyone got any suggestions on how to play them.  I hear that they hook early and alot.  Equipment and stats in profile.  Thanks

guardian is a overlay used to protect older wood lanes. it's very soft and pliable. the regionals i've bowled on it you have to look for the warning signs that your ball is burning up and hitting weak. surface preparation is very important. good luck !

Jeff Carter somehow managed to set his season average record bowling on Guardian.  If they don't know what they're doing, look out.  Dry heads and tons of carry down.  Yum.

Lofting the ball without hitting up on it works well on guardian.

My expierence with them is that they have huge backend reactions coming off the overlay on onto the wood (oak) backends IF they been properly prepared.

If not, a lot of carrydown does occur.

My best set have come with a low load particle ball so that you dont get a big jump when it hits the backend, also good for any carrydown that occurs. I would generally switch to particle pearl..

I bowl league on guardian.  The house usually put down a decent volume of oil 40 ft long to help offset the guardian.

You will find that you might need to move faster than you would normally as guardian is soft and has the highest friction rate but it does not absorb oil so this leads to early hook with milder backends as the oil carries down.

If you are playing the same line as several others on your pair you will be moving about every 2-3 shots.

You will find that the guardian will allow you to play up the boards alot easier due to your ball reading so early.

Well shot a whoooping 4 over but I'm in the top 16 so I'll take it anyday.  Shot minus 60 right out the gate and battled back.  Tried to play in and it just wasn't there, moved out and my look was much better.  Gameplan tomorrow is to play as far right as I can and hope for the best.

nto the wood (oak) backends

Oak????????  Maple were the heads on old wood lanes and pine on the backend.  More idiocy on BR.com.
