Regional Players Championship.
« on: May 29, 2010, 04:12:09 PM »
Watching a lot of people struggle today. They have down the World Chamionship Pattern.

With the weather as hot as it was in the Detroit area today,it made the condition even harder.
Was hot very in Thunderbowl ,even with the air on.

The pattern was blown-up in the heads early from the heat.Players struggled early and often.
Spares missed, splits by the dozens.Lots of scoring monitors hit.Chris Collins hit them hard
twice, even though he  is near the top.Should be interesting on Sunday.

Some of these guys just are not getting it,they need less hand and tighter line to pocket
to stay out of trouble on this type pattern.
They still want to see multiple board area, and booming backend,This is not working.

I bowled better today physically but had worse carry. It was blazing hot in there. It will likely be worse for the late block.

Darth.they are not using the arena They are  using only the middle
bay area..The heat this weekend making the heads even dryer. Most
are not getting carry, then to compensate for flat ten pins they try to
rip the cover of the ball and end up with a split washout,or bucket.

They are not getting a good reaction in the mids.

These PBA patterns and PBA specialty patterns have such little volume in the heads.  They were much better when Kegel was doing the lanes.  This Brunswick A-22 can''''t produce patterns with head volume.   The A-22 doesn''''t oil in reverse so your not getting any build up to keep the heads fresh.

There doesnt seem to be any solution to the low volume heads.  When the patterns get juiced up they play too erratic and sloppy with the A-22, when they are low volume they play too dry.

You really have to learn how to massage the ball through the heads, clean and forward.

Compared to what I''m used to in the East Region, there was plenty of oil in the heads. I actually finished the block with a box finish Virtual Gravity, which I normally can''t use even at the beginning of a block.

You finished a block with a VG, but your experiencing bad carry, and balls that didn''''t get through the pocket well.

This doesn''''t make much sense to me.  If you felt the volumes where high enough for the VG, but saw ball reaction that based on dry heads, and evaporation due to a hot building.

Shouldn''''t your move be based on the ball loosing energy in the mids, and not seeing it as possibly carry down.

Your move might of been not a stronger ball, but a much weaker one.

There is never any oil in the East, unless your bowling on a synthetic surface that is newer and pristine.

I finished the block plus 87, plus 166 for both, so I guess poor carry is relative. My only point was that there was oil in the heads, at least more than I was used to, and I''m not exactly a fireballer at 47 yrs old. My excecution was much better today than yesterday but my carry was better yesterday. I ended up further inside than most. From what I saw, those who were using less surface would sometimes overshoot the breakpoint if they got the ball even a little right.

Just wanted to give my point of view from the perspective of someone on the lanes at the event, for anyone interested.

Joe

Well Joe,you still have a chance to make the cut then.Taking the  top 32 and you being at 22nd after
squad B.Lets's  see what happens.
The volume of oil was more at the back than the front. The regional lane man,Ray Krueter,
informed me, that they wanted people the make good shots based on what they had at the
exit point. Most could not read where the ball was exiting, and finding the break point was tough
if you didn't now what to look for.
But based on what I seen, most players could not find the reaction they figured they would get.

That stuff (banging equipment, etc.) doesn''t happen so much in the East. The regional director is very strict. I don''''t know how it usually is in the Central, my first time bowling in this region.

Darth,Most of the guys behaved themselves pretty good.I did not hear a lot of cussing.
I also was surprised that the equipment was spared.

As I stated earlier,Chris Collins hit the thin Brunswick monitors twice. You could hear
loud cracking sounds both times.I was waiting for him to completely lose it.Or the
monitors to be broken.

How are they hitting scoring monitors?  Are they so mad that they have such high backswings are are they punching them?

Chris Collins is an embarrassment to the PBA. He needs to go. He's pulled stunts like these too many times.

I'm not defending abuse of equipment, but,

Looking like a donkey behind on the lanes doesnt do you any good, so why do it?

you can't rationalise what's going on in this situation, by its nature it's not a rational reaction.
