NOT Enough Lane Conditioner
« on: September 13, 2004, 12:26:06 AM »
My rant for the week!

Most of us have started fall leagues last few weeks.

Any of you seeing more oil or less or about the same?

I'd say I am seeing less or about the same.  Why do ball mfgs. come out with these hook monsters?  Seems I see no one able to use most of them....even see that on the PBA tour.

The biggest normal hooking type ball I carry right now is a MoRich Onslaught and I doubt I'll use it much at all this year.  I can use a DT Thing in one house <Bruns AnvilLane 1st generation> for one game maybe game and a half then switch to Visionary Centaur or DT Thing Returns.  Other house <walled up wet/dry Guardian heads old wood, resurfaced this year> I may use Thing or right away go to Centaur and follow with Track Dry Heat.

I am now working on loft to 8' to keep balls from rolling early especially in the wood house.  Working inside in the wood house say inside of 4th arrow is an exercise in futility.  By third game have to go to 5th arrow to find any head oil.

My point is I really don't blame proprietors it's more the ball companies that run the show and push the propreitor into having more and more lane conditoner to use the mega hooking monsters that suck up all the head oil so most can't play the lane anywhere from the twig to inside the 4th.

I even looked at a LaneMasters Standard because the particle technology looks first rate, but then thought to myself....where the heck would I use it.

To me it's become less and less bowling and more and more ball throwing/chucking!  If you don't have 25 mph ball speed your done on many lane conditons these days.

PURE Hammer=problem solved.

The urethane/reactive mild blend shined up make this ball awsome.  Shiny scoots the heads and recovers nicely on the backs.   Cheap too!!!

For me this week in the one house I am working on a weaker release but also getting the ball out on the lane at least 8'.  I'd sure hate to see bowlers lofting the ball 8' out on old wood heads if I owned the place.

Scott - good to see you understand things from the owner's point of view.  Also good to see that you're working on developing an effective release for the conditions you face.  Have you investigated the John Jowdy drag release?  It is especially effective in getting the ball through dry heads and creating roll further down the lane.

Always remember, the primary factor in how a ball reacts on the lane is how you throw the ball.  The biggest hooking monster with the strongest core and strongest drill can be thrown stick straight.
