Release....
« on: August 21, 2003, 10:29:40 PM »
Ok, I have a question about release. I am like most when it comes to shooting spares in that I throw plastic at them. Now, my question is, being that plastic doesnt hook (unless on extreme dry) how should I be releasing the ball?? I have been coming up the back when shooting at left side and middle spares, but my release when I shoot right side spares is more like when I thrown my first shot. I come up the side of the ball. Should I be releasing up the back of the ball for everything and if so, how is this going to help or hurt my spare shooting??

How am I supposed to knock all 10 down with one ball?!?

Remember less is more, the less hand action and tilt you have the more accurate and consistent you will be.I can kill the ball and put 1-2 revs on it.I have to do this regardless of plastic or reactive because my natural release is to belly the ball. But it also verys by bowler figure out what works for you and practice it.My advice is to kill it straight up the back, never any suprises this way.

Using plastic and playing straighter at the spares I allow my wrist to break slightly at the top of my backswing. This allows for only 2-3 revs going down the lane. It is my feeling that you are better off shooting at all of your spares with way because regardless of the condition your spares will almost always be the same exact mark, speed etc.

I do believe that being able to throw your spare shots similiar to your strike shot is beneficial. However if you are already straightening your wrist for one side of the lane, they you should do it for the other as well.

All to often I go to a team tournament with friends or relatives and they throw the plastic the same as their strike shot and the ball hooks. When I go somewhere it else it is not going to matter to me how heavy the oil is or how dry the backends are, the plastic ball with the slightly broken release the ball does the same no matter what is out there.
