I have been bowling for 30 years. By far the worst year of my recreational career!First of all I can identify with some help from my fellow bowlers that I am releasing the ball too many different ways. I also have a variety of equipment with different layouts. My ball (all of them) have a tendency of rolling out.What should I do? seek help or just keep practicing?

Roll out could be caused by a number of things... could be a change in the pattern causing your equipment to burn up early and roll out, although because you mention your struggles with release, it might be that you are simply throwing the ball too flat, or even too up the back of the ball.

Roll out is generally cause by too much ball on too little oil..

This may be whats happening to you..

I would try different balls with a less aggressive cover and see how those react for you

Thanks guys, You know as much as the season is just about over and I want to play golf I want to fix whatever it is I am doing wrong. And maybe in the summer when it is raining I should be working on my game.(bowling). And that is something I never do in the summer!

What balls do you have now? Layouts? Surface?

Without being able to see what you are doing it is kind of a guessing game. Sometimes all it amounts to is the bowlers ball speed. If you have a lot of friction and slower ball speed, your ball can roll out. If you have equipment that is drilled to go longer, you may be able to change the surface to fit the condition and do just fine. Some bowlers have a lot of their equipment drilled to roll up early and then the ball will roll out, if there is a lot of friction down lane. You said you have been bowling 30 years so I am just guessing your ball speed may have slowed some.

First off, how old is your current equipment ? If hey are faily new, do not buy any new balls. Take what your have to your pro shop and have them remove the oil and then apply a fresh box surface. They can also check your layouts to determine if they were drilled to roll early. After this, if the balls still roll out, use higher grit and more polish. If your equipment is over 2 years old, have a lot of games and were not maintained, then maybe a new ball might be in order.

If all this fails, then it might be time to take a lesson and get your release fixed. Remember, new equipment will not make you release the ball better (unless you had a grip change).

My equipment is fairly newer stuff;

ebonite pin slasher pin down dull

ebonite gamebreaker pin above ring finger, axis hole- little bit of shine

track 300C pin down- stacked- shine

roto pearl cell- pin right of ring finger, axis hole- shiny

track kinetic- pin below- shiny

storm trop heat hybrid- pin above- shiny

It almost seems like I need to have something that continues to roll.And I agree

maybe just some surface changes and a good release.

My guess would also be that you face too little oil. Do you have the same trouble in other houses, too? Just to sort out that it is a local problem.

On the other hand - do you actually have the ball roll out, or do they simply not hook/move much? That's a difference and could be identified through a piece of tape on your PAP (what is it, by the way?), and observe how the rotational axis of the core changes as the ball goes down the lane. If the latter is the case, then I could see that your inconsistent release could be the source, e .g. through topping the ball.

Seeking help is IMHO the better option - but I'd consult a coach who actually sees you play, so a diagnosis would be much easier than the remote guesswork we can offer here.

On a typical league night...where are you standing and what is your target?

Example: If you are standing left and trying to bend it back that could be an issue.

Yes I tend to stand left and try to bring it back. I was always taught that if your ball goes left you must move left and if it stays right you have to move right. It seems though that if I try to play a little more straight, the ball hooks up. If I move a little left then it will roll out and never make it back to the pocket. Sometimes I do think it is me and the rest of the time I do feel that I just don't have the right equipment in my hand.

As I and Dizzy said, you really need to find a coach. Could be your release or lack of ball speed or something else. Hard to say without seeing you bowl.

I'm suprised your 300C and Tropical Heat Hybrid would be rolling out on you since they are weaker balls, but they do require some head oil as well. Do others in your league notice a decrease in oil this season? You should try to post a vid on here of yourself bowling so we can see how you bowl and whats happening on the lanes.

Remember too that a move inside compared to a move outside might require a completely different hand position. If you aren't a cranker, getting around the side of the ball when inside and staying behind the ball more outside might be a good adjustment to make, but without seeing you bowl its hard to say. Also if its just a ball situation, then a much less agressive ball like a urethane ball for the outside and a much more aggressive ball with some strong backend continuation for the inside like a Nano, Mission, Anarchy, or even a Victory Road might help you out as well.
