release question...
« on: June 01, 2005, 02:27:47 PM »
I've been looking for more revs on my shot.  Would it make sense that I get more revs when I jam my fingers into my fingertip grips past my first knuckle?  Do power players stick their fingers deep into the ball?

longroller, you have no profile so not sure how you throw the ball. Remember that "lift" as mentioned above these days is "up" with the fingers but with your hand/arm out over the lane. It SHOULD not matter how far your finger tips are in the ball, unless the ball is falling off too quickly. As long as your thumb is clear as you begin your finger rotation, then the length and speed of the finger snap will determine your rev rate. If you rotate from 6 o'clock with the fingers to 3 o'clock you'll get less revs than if you start with your fingers at 9 o'clock. I don't want to bore you as I don't know your experience level but you get the picture.

I'd watch jamming your fingers down into your grips -- could start mangling your fingers!!

All very valid tips.  I'm afraid I try to "muscle" the ball to much and jam my fingers.  Another thing that has helped me is to pull my thumb out halfway.  I'm just thinking that doing these things is covering up for some other type of mistake I am doing in my armswing.  I'll just keep practicing.  Thank you for the help.

Long Roller -- If you have to pull your thumb out even a little to get a clean release, have your grip checked by a good fitter/driller.  --  JohnP
