BEST BALL FOR TOKIO, ATLANTA AND BEIJING PATTERN???
« on: May 14, 2012, 05:52:00 PM »
I TRY DIFFERENT BALLS ON ALL THOSE PATTERNS...

i want to know if you guys have a favorite ones in each pattern:

for me right now:

Tokyo (43· long): mutant cell pearl(out the box) and nano gravity(1000 abrasion)

Atlanta (38· medium with carry): nano gravity and infinity theory (otb)

Beijing (35· short with some carry): Sigma tour, recon rx1 silver and infinity theory.

I want to update this balls... suggestions on each pattern?

I asking  cuz... all the most reviews are on HOUSE pattern, Sports House pattern, and, We don't play anymore those patterns, on leagues or Nationals tournaments.

Thanks to everyone try to answer this topic!!!

I might be an odd example, but I use my Wicked Siege (2000 abralon) on just about everything.  I used it on Beijing taking most of my hand out of the ball and feeding it up the gutter.  Because the ball is so clean through the front part of the lane and doesn't react hard to the dry, it's a great short oil ball for me, but I'm starting to really like the gutter shot if it's there.  I also used the Wicked Siege on Tokyo, starting at 6/7 at the arrows one night and 12/13 the other, obviously putting my normal hand in the ball.

I haven't matched up to Atlanta all that well.  The first night I started with urethane (Slate Blue Gargoyle) up 5, but switched to the Wicked Siege targeting 17 with a decent belly after the outside went away.  The other night I played outside with a Nuts Pearl (1500 polish), mostly because it was new and I didn't have anything dramatically better in practice.  Atlanta has lots of friction, so keep your options open.

Mexico City I used my Black Widow Bite both nights.  The other short patterns (Stockholm and Sydney) I used either the Wicked Siege or my XXXL.  Other than that, I pretty much used the Wicked Siege for everything.

On all the WTBA short patterns, I used a red/yellow 900Global Hook.  On the medium and long patterns, I used a Seismic Epicenter with a surface of 1000abralon.  I had a better look on the medium/long patterns than the short.  Struggled on the short with the Hook, but it was the best look I had with that ball on the shorts.  Of all the patterns, Mexico and Seoul were my favorite.

This year, we switched to the PBA patterns.  Which, I've never bowled on them except the Open pattern.  And so far, the Seismic Aftermath was perfect on the Cheetah for me.  Carmen Salvino tomorrow night though, we will see how that goes.

Emphasis on the surfaces you have on your equipment will be more important than the particular piece of equipment and/or the drilling pattern.

There are no magic balls for any pattern...it totally depends on your style.  What works for one does not work for all.  If there were balls for particular patterns there wouldn't be 150 resin balls currently in production.

The ball is important to the pattern, but also the big key is where you play on the pattern. Unlike house shots, most patterns have specific way playing them causing them to open up and yield more strikes.

Strider's reply is what I am referring to. It probably took some experimenting but he seems to have found specific area's to play on each of the patterns.

Why sure there is, Russell. Just get an Elite Cheetah for Cheetah pattern, an Elite Scorpion for Scorpion pattern, etc. - haha ;-)

It wasn't so bad with the PBA patterns, but when we switched to the Team USA (13 patterns), I needed to take notes so I could remember how I attacked each pattern so I had a good starting point for the next time the pattern came around.  I made a nice Excel sheet where I track scores (game by game, pattern by pattern (or type of pattern)) and included a place for notes on how I played the lanes.  I also take full advantage of the weekends.  They put the patterns out at least one day each weekend.  I'm more experimenting with different ball, releases, and zones of the lane than worried about scoring.  There's no magic ball that will work for everyone, but you can at least maximize what works for you.

I bowled on Tokyo tonight and I couldn't tell you where to play or what balls to throw. I shot 639 for four and I can count on one hand the shots I threw where I let it go and said "Ooops, bad shot". If I missed half a board left at the break point, I left a 4-pin. A full board left at the break point and I left a split. A board right at the break point and I left a bucket or 2-8. So, clearly, there either WAS no shot, or I just played the lanes wrong. In retrospect, I wish I had jumped left with a weaker ball, but with the lanes playing very straight early, I didn't have the confidence to do so. I saw one guy tearing them up but he had about 500 revs. He was playing about 10 at the break point and moved progressively left as the night went on.
