Wotargara, I thought that I smelled a familiar smell in the air! You're giving me flashbacks to the 60's.
As for the all too common complaint about too little oil on the lanes, my league house is just the opposite. The owner/manager loves heavy oil, so we all get to play in far more soup than I care to bowl on. Even on an off day when leagues aren't even running, you can still go in there and practice with a fairly deep amount of oil on the lanes, even if they weren't run that particular day. I often refer to the house as the Exxon Valdez. I'm just glad that the owner finally ditched his trial run on Prodigy oil and went back to my favorite Black Gold lane oil. The Prodigy experiment was not well received by any of the bowlers in the house, and the scores dropped some 20-30 pins across the board when the Prodigy was out on the lanes.....Prodigy does NOT live up to the advertising hype it has for it. In fact, the owner threw out part of a jug of Prodigy just as soon as his new shipment of Black Gold came in....the Black Gold hit the lane machine again the same day that it arrived. I quizzed the owner if we had to endure the balance of the Prodigy that was left in the jug, and his answer had something that referred to dumping it in the trash dumpster. Needless to say, I was grateful for his decision to switch back to Black Gold, which has been my most productive lane conditioner in that particular house.
Since the Black Gold hit the lanes again, I've been flirting with another ring score several times. I've had 3 games in the past week with 10 strikes in a game, so maybe I'm getting back on track towards shooting for some more ABC jewelry. I could use another 300 ring. In fact, I shot a Varipapa 299 last night, with the back 8 strikes in game 2 (260), then I ran off the first 3 strikes in game 3. I buried the 4th frame shot in the pocket, but left a ringing 7-pin, for a Varipapa 299.
