Removing Finger Inserts
« on: February 06, 2009, 06:28:13 AM »
I was just looking around at the Insert removers, does everyone use those in order to get the finger inserts out? or do you use something else... just trying to maybe save some money. Let me know what you all use. thanks!

Hey Ryan,

Grab a small screwdriver (pen length) and pry the top of the grip first in a circle, then work your way in and down.  This will work fairly easily so long as the grip isn't glued a ton.  The grip remover tools are only needed when shops/guys use too much glue. Depending upon the amount of glue used, you may have to use a bevel knife or some sort of sharp edged tool to clean out the hole from any leftover grip that is stuck to the sides of the hole.

Come get me at my tourney at the end of the month and I'll show you bud.

The grip removers are not any good if you are wanting to re use the grips.  They tend to shred versus remove.

Definitely the best thing is a small screwdriver.  If you do it right it will not damage the grips, provided someone did not use a whole bottle of super glue to put them in.

I use three things.  A flat tip screw driver to break them loose.  A Masters insert remover to get them out and a Swiss Army knife to scrape the remains.
